Modder and YouTuber Taki Udon has done what many thought was impossible: turning a Nintendo Switch Lite into a powerhouse capable of HDMI output, running an OLED display, and featuring a touch-sensitive glass panel. Remarkably, all these enhancements fit snugly within the original casing without any soldering or modifications that compromise the integrity of the device.
As part of Taki Udon’s Super 5 OLED project, this mod introduces a micro HDMI port to the Switch Lite, allowing it to connect seamlessly to an external display. This feature was notably absent in the original model. The magic lies in the build’s solderless design, utilizing internal cable management and precise fittings, making it a feasible upgrade for seasoned modders.
While OLED and touch mods have been around for the Switch Lite, this build is groundbreaking by integrating both with HDMI-out in a system that retains its original appearance. In Taki’s demonstration, the device smoothly transitions between external video output and its built-in screen and speakers once unplugged.
According to Taki, this version represents the first successful, fully functional mod after years of development and numerous prototypes. A detailed guide is expected soon on their main channel, and there is potential for small-batch production in the foreseeable future.
Nintendo never equipped the Switch Lite with a video-out feature, but this innovative mod offers a near-docked experience without needing to switch consoles. While unofficial, this could revolutionize how players engage with the Lite, especially for those eager to enjoy games on a larger screen.
