Mojang Studios has confirmed that Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on October 27. While the game is already playable on the system through the existing Switch version, this upcoming release will be a proper native version designed for the Switch 2.
One of the biggest upgrades coming with the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is improved visuals. Mojang says the game will use “Vibrant Visuals” as the default experience, giving Minecraft a more polished look with enhanced lighting, richer shadows, and other visual improvements. For a game built around exploration, building, and creative worlds, these upgrades should make environments feel more dynamic and immersive.
However, there are a few limitations. Vibrant Visuals will not be available when playing in split-screen mode. Mojang also noted that the feature may not work with certain Marketplace Worlds, meaning the enhanced visual style will not apply everywhere across the game.
The beloved Super Mario Mash-Up pack is also receiving an upgrade for the Switch 2 version. This means players will be able to revisit iconic Nintendo-themed locations such as Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza with improved visual quality. For longtime Nintendo and Minecraft fans, this could be one of the most exciting parts of the update.
