Meta Trials Instagram Reels Posting Directly on Threads

Meta’s Threads is continuing to innovate by exploring new ways to integrate with its established platforms, Facebook and Instagram. Initially, Threads capitalized on its network connections by encouraging cross-posting and even spotlighting Threads content in carousels across its sister networks. Now, Meta is trialing a cutting-edge feature: the ability to share Instagram Reels directly onto Threads.

Renowned app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi recently uncovered this upcoming feature, noticing a new option in the Threads compose box. Here, users will soon be able to choose Reels from their Instagram accounts to post them seamlessly onto Threads. Meta has confirmed that these tests are actively underway.

When utilizing this feature, users can simply tap on the Instagram icon in Threads’ compose box. This action reveals a grid showcasing their Instagram posts and Reels, from which they can then elect which Reels to share on Threads.

The option caters to a growing trend among users who already share their Instagram content on Threads for broader reach and improved engagement. This enhancement simplifies the process, making it even more user-friendly.

Earlier this year, Meta began experimenting with automatic cross-posting capabilities from Instagram directly to Threads. A similar feature was also in the testing phase for Facebook integration earlier this year.

To boost Threads’ visibility and engagement, Meta had previously introduced carousels of Threads posts on both Facebook and Instagram. However, the automatic recommendation of Threads posts on Facebook and Instagram wasn’t universally welcomed, so Meta discreetly introduced an opt-out feature, giving users more control over how their content is shared across platforms.

With these continued updates and improvements, Meta aims to enrich user experiences while solidifying Threads’ position within its social network ecosystem.
