NVIDIA is redirecting its focus from the desktop to the notebook segments, affecting the supply of its GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GPUs. The company recently stopped accepting orders for these desktop GPUs to prioritize their use in notebooks, particularly for the eagerly anticipated Double 11 sales event in China. This shift aims to ensure notebook manufacturers have sufficient AD106 chips to meet the demand during this significant sales period.
The desktop RTX 4060 Ti is currently one of NVIDIA’s most popular mid-range graphics card options. It continues to record strong sales both online and offline, with its popularity soaring due to its impressive capability to handle games at 1440p resolution. Despite the temporary cutback in supply, these cards are still widely available, although the supply of the RTX 4070 and higher models is tighter.
In October, NVIDIA’s decision to prioritize notebook production over desktop GPUs means supply to certain AIC (Add-In Card) brands will be reduced. This approach is primarily because NVIDIA’s production is already running at full capacity, and the demand for laptop chips is predicted to surge during the Double 11 sales.
This strategic move by NVIDIA may lead to a supply crunch for the RTX 4060 Ti throughout October. However, it is believed that availability might improve mid-month, alleviating the shortage somewhat. Interestingly, while the desktop version hungrily relies on the AD106 chip, the laptop variations such as RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 leverage both AD107 and AD106 chips, making them particularly integral during this sales period.
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti has been steadily climbing in popularity, sitting comfortably at the fourth position in the Steam Hardware survey with a market share of approximately 3.66%. Retailing around $350 for the 8 GB variant and $400 for the 16 GB version, it remains a top choice for gamers looking for a cost-effective, performance-oriented graphics solution. NVIDIA’s strategic maneuvers, while challenging for desktop markets this month, reflect its agility in meeting market demands and maximizing sales opportunities.
