Meta Bets Bigger on Paid AI with New Subscription Plans

Meta One subscription plans bring expanded AI tools to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp

Meta has introduced a new subscription service called Meta One, giving users expanded access to artificial intelligence tools and premium features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The launch marks another major step in the company’s push to turn its growing AI ecosystem into a larger revenue stream.

The new Meta One plans are designed for people who want to use Meta’s AI features more often, especially for creative tasks such as generating images, making videos, editing content, and enhancing social posts. Subscribers can access tools such as Muse Image and Muse Video, along with Instagram’s AI-powered Restyle feature, which allows users to transform and edit Stories with creative effects.

Meta One arrives as Meta continues investing heavily in artificial intelligence. The company has been working to expand the use of its Muse AI models across its apps, following a major 2025 investment in Scale AI that brought Alexandr Wang into Meta to help lead its AI strategy.

The new subscription lineup also builds on Meta’s earlier paid plans for individual apps. In March, the company introduced lower-cost subscriptions such as Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus. These plans offer perks including profile customization, super reactions, story insights, and other enhanced in-app features.

Those existing subscriptions appear to be gaining momentum. Recent app revenue estimates show a sharp rise in daily worldwide revenue for Instagram and Facebook after the paid features gained traction. Instagram’s daily revenue reportedly climbed to around $1.2 million during the week of September 9, while Facebook reached about $528,000 per day. That represents significant growth compared with the previous week, suggesting that users are showing interest in paid social media features when the value is clear.

With Meta One, the company is now widening its subscription strategy beyond simple app upgrades. The new plans target AI power users, creators, and businesses that rely on Meta’s platforms for content, customer engagement, and online visibility.

For everyday users, Meta One includes two main plans: Core at $7.99 per month and Premium at $19.99 per month. Both plans include features from Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus. The biggest difference is AI usage. Premium gives subscribers more access to Meta’s AI tools than Core, although Meta has not provided exact usage limits. The company said limits may vary depending on country, app, and system conditions.

Subscribers can use Meta’s AI tools to create images, generate videos, apply voice effects, edit Instagram Stories, and use other creative features more frequently. This could make Meta One especially appealing to users who regularly create social media content and want faster, easier ways to produce polished posts.

Meta is also rolling out a separate set of subscription options for businesses and creators. These plans include Essential, Advanced, Expert, and Max tiers, with pricing that scales based on the level of features and support.

The Essential plan starts at $14.99 per month and is aimed at creators and businesses that want better tools to manage their online presence. It includes expanded access to the Meta Business Agent, which can help respond to customers, along with a verified badge and channel on the WhatsApp Business App. It also includes impersonation detection, a useful feature for brands and public-facing creators trying to protect their identity.

The Advanced plan starts at $49.99 per month and adds more professional tools. Subscribers can schedule Stories up to 30 days in advance, add links to organic posts and reels, export analytics, access deeper audience insights, allow team members to manage the account, connect more devices, use more business broadcast credits, and get more Meta Business Agent responses.

Both Essential and Advanced also introduce new profile enhancements. Businesses and creators can display their website, locations, and reviews more prominently. Their reels can also feature a more noticeable Follow button, while automatic follow invitations can be sent to people who engage with their content.

For larger businesses and high-volume creators, Meta is offering Expert and Max plans. Expert starts at $149 per month, while Max starts at $499 per month. These tiers provide the highest levels of feature access and Meta Business Agent capacity, making them more suitable for brands that depend heavily on Meta’s platforms for marketing, customer service, and sales.

Meta says it plans to add more capabilities over time, including new agent skills that can assist with marketing, business operations, content creation, and optimization. The company also plans to introduce Edits Plus as part of Meta One. Edits Plus will support Meta’s content-creation app Edits, offering more cloud storage for syncing projects across devices and additional use of the Edits AI assistant.

The growing number of subscription tiers may feel complicated, but the strategy is clear. Meta wants to create paid upgrades for casual users, power users, creators, and businesses while using artificial intelligence as the centerpiece of its premium offerings.

The timing is important. AI development is expensive, and Meta has made major investments in infrastructure, talent, and AI models. Subscription plans such as Meta One could help the company generate recurring revenue while encouraging users to adopt its AI tools more deeply across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Early revenue trends suggest there may be strong demand for paid features inside Meta’s apps. In the United States, users accounted for a larger share of Instagram and Facebook subscription revenue after the plans began gaining traction in September. Analysts also expect Meta’s subscription business to grow significantly in the coming years, with some forecasts projecting billions of dollars in added annual revenue by the end of the decade.

Meta One could become a key part of Meta’s future business model. By combining AI content creation, business automation, creator tools, and premium social features, the company is positioning its apps not just as social platforms, but as paid productivity and marketing tools for the AI era.
