Lucid Overtakes Tesla in Charging Race with Fastest Speeds on Its Exclusive Stations

Lucid is setting new benchmarks in the electric vehicle market with its latest offering, the Gravity SUV. Known for its impressive range, the Gravity is now making headlines for its potential charging speeds, thanks to upcoming access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Tesla has recently upgraded all its North American V4 Superchargers to supply a whopping 325 kW output. This upgrade aligns perfectly with the capabilities of Tesla’s Cybertruck, which features an 800V powertrain. However, initial charging tests for the Cybertruck at these newly enhanced Superchargers have yielded less-than-ideal results. Although the peak charging speed is impressive, it cannot be sustained for long, diminishing the advantage over the older 250 kW V3 Superchargers.

The issue seems to stem from the Cybertruck’s 4680 battery, known for its challenging charging dynamics. While Tesla is actively working to improve this through over-the-air updates, the limitations remain noticeable.

Conversely, Lucid has taken a different approach with its Gravity SUV, collaborating with Panasonic to refine battery technology. The Gravity boasts a 926V powertrain, offering not only remarkable range—450 miles from a 123 kWh battery—but also ultrafast 400 kW charging capabilities. This advanced technology enables the Gravity to gain 200 miles of range within a mere 12 minutes at Tesla’s V4 Superchargers, a feat that leaves the Cybertruck trailing, as its best recent update allows only 150 miles in 15 minutes.

Lucid’s strategic move to integrate a NACS charging port directly within the Gravity places it ahead in leveraging Tesla’s Supercharger network. This integration means that real-world charging comparisons between the Gravity and Cybertruck will soon be in full swing, especially with the anticipated boost of Tesla’s Superchargers to 500 kW later this year.

Lucid’s innovation signifies a leap forward in the EV market, combining cutting-edge battery technology with strategic partnerships to deliver unparalleled charging efficiency. As the race to perfect electric vehicle performance intensifies, Lucid and Tesla are undoubtedly setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.
