LG is ready to kick off sales for its new gaming-focused ultrawide OLED monitor, the UltraGear OLED 39GX950B. After earlier teasing that pre-orders would arrive “soon,” LG Japan has now locked in a concrete launch time: the monitor will be available to buy starting April 9 at 14:00 local time (05:00 UTC).
For now, LG has only confirmed this timing for Japan, and it’s still unclear whether the same release date will apply in other regions. If you’re outside Japan and waiting to purchase, it’s worth keeping an eye on your local LG store announcements, since global availability may roll out on a different schedule.
The UltraGear OLED 39GX950B is built around a premium 39-inch curved ultrawide panel with a 1500R curvature, aiming to deliver a more immersive field of view for gaming, movies, and productivity. One of the biggest highlights is its sharp 5,120 x 2,160 (5K2K) resolution paired with a 165 Hz refresh rate, a combination designed for users who want both high detail and smooth motion.
Connectivity is also a major focus. LG lists DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, and USB Type-C, giving buyers flexibility across modern gaming PCs, laptops, and current-gen consoles. Another notable detail from LG’s Canadian product information is that the monitor can upscale content to its full 5K2K resolution without requiring the connected device to handle the upscaling itself, which could be useful for systems that can’t comfortably render games at the panel’s native resolution.
For players who prioritize speed over pixel count, LG also includes a mode that boosts the refresh rate by lowering the resolution to 1080p (2,560 x 1,080). This feature targets competitive gaming scenarios where higher frame rates and faster responsiveness can matter more than maximum sharpness.
On the picture quality side, the UltraGear OLED 39GX950B is rated for 335 nits in SDR and up to 1,500 nits peak brightness in HDR (APL 1.5%), along with 99% DCI-P3 color coverage. That mix is geared toward vibrant colors, strong HDR highlights, and the kind of contrast OLED displays are known for—appealing not just to gamers, but also to creators and anyone who wants a high-end display for entertainment.
As April 9 approaches, the key open question remains regional timing. Still, with its 5K2K ultrawide OLED panel, 165 Hz refresh rate, modern ports, and flexible performance modes, the UltraGear OLED 39GX950B is shaping up to be a serious contender in the premium gaming monitor market.
