Lenovo Legion Y700 Compact Gaming Tablet With 5G Confirmed for August 2026 Launch
Lenovo is preparing to expand its Legion gaming tablet lineup with a new compact version of the Legion Y700, and this upcoming model could be one of the most interesting small gaming tablets of 2026. The company has confirmed that the device will launch in China in August 2026, with 5G connectivity standing out as one of its biggest upgrades.
The latest Legion Y700 already attracted attention as a powerful gaming-focused tablet with a compact 8.8-inch display and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 hardware. However, Lenovo appears to be going even smaller with the next variant, making it potentially more appealing to gamers who want flagship-level performance in a highly portable form factor.
The new Legion gaming tablet was first shown during the Shenzhen Nuclear Fusion Gaming Carnival event, where it made a surprise appearance. Lenovo has now officially acknowledged the device and confirmed that it will arrive as a different version within the Y700 family.
One of the most important confirmed features is 5G support. This could make the tablet a stronger option for mobile gamers who want low-latency connectivity without relying only on Wi-Fi. With cloud gaming, online multiplayer titles, and game streaming becoming more popular, built-in 5G could give the upcoming Legion tablet a major advantage over many compact gaming tablets currently on the market.
Lenovo has also shared an early look at the front design through a promotional render. The tablet appears to feature a punch-hole camera cutout on the display. However, the bezels do not seem noticeably slimmer than those on the current Legion Tab Gen 5. While the overall design looks familiar, the smaller size may help it stand out in a category where compact gaming tablets remain relatively rare.
Another major upgrade expected for the new model is an OLED display. This has not yet been fully detailed by Lenovo, but if accurate, it would be a meaningful improvement over the current Legion Y700, which uses an IPS panel. An OLED screen could deliver deeper blacks, stronger contrast, richer colors, and a more immersive visual experience for gaming, streaming, and everyday media use.
That display upgrade could also help Lenovo compete more directly with upcoming gaming tablets such as the RedMagic Astra 2. As more brands move into the compact performance tablet segment, screen quality, chipset choice, cooling, and connectivity are likely to become key selling points.
For now, Lenovo has not confirmed which processor will power the smaller Legion Y700 variant. It may use the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip found in the larger Gen 5 model, but there is also speculation that Lenovo could choose a MediaTek Dimensity platform instead. Either way, expectations are high, especially given the Legion brand’s focus on gaming performance.
