Oppo and Vivo may be preparing to enter the compact gimbal camera market with two new devices designed to challenge DJI’s upcoming Osmo Pocket 4. A fresh leak from China suggests both brands are working on handheld cameras with high-end imaging hardware, potentially giving creators more options for stabilized, pocket-sized video recording.
The biggest detail from the latest rumor is the camera sensor. Oppo and Vivo’s rumored handheld gimbal cameras are said to feature a massive 200MP 1/1.2-inch sensor. That would be a major jump in resolution compared to the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, which is expected to use a 32MP sensor. However, DJI’s model is said to have a larger 1-inch sensor, which could still offer strong low-light performance and dynamic range.
These rumored devices appear to be aimed at vloggers, travelers, and mobile content creators who want smooth video without carrying a full camera setup. Like the Osmo Pocket series, the Oppo and Vivo cameras are expected to use a compact handheld design with mechanical stabilization, making them suitable for walking shots, travel videos, social media clips, and on-the-go filmmaking.
Oppo’s version may come with Hasselblad camera tuning, continuing the brand’s imaging partnership that has already appeared on its premium smartphones. If accurate, this could mean improved color processing, more natural tones, and a camera experience focused on high-quality image output. Previous leaks have also suggested that Oppo’s device could include a 3-axis gimbal system, similar to DJI’s popular pocket camera design.
Vivo’s rumored handheld gimbal camera may feature Zeiss tuning, which would align with the company’s flagship smartphone camera strategy. Vivo has used Zeiss branding and image processing on its high-end phones, and bringing that expertise to a standalone gimbal camera could help the device stand out in a growing market for compact creator tools.
While the 200MP sensor sounds impressive, resolution alone will not determine the final camera quality. Factors such as sensor size, lens quality, stabilization performance, autofocus, image processing, battery life, microphone quality, and software features will all play a major role. For content creators, reliable stabilization and strong video performance are often just as important as megapixel count.
The rumored launch timeline points to late 2026, but neither Oppo nor Vivo has officially confirmed the existence of these handheld gimbal cameras. Until an announcement is made, the specifications should be treated as early leak-based information.
The compact gimbal camera space is also becoming more competitive. Insta360 has already confirmed plans for a small gimbal camera called the Luna Ultra, which will feature dual lenses and a detachable screen. With DJI continuing to dominate the category and new rivals reportedly entering the market, 2026 could become an important year for portable stabilized cameras.
If Oppo and Vivo do release handheld gimbal cameras with 200MP sensors, premium imaging partnerships, and smartphone-style computational photography, they could appeal to creators who want a powerful alternative to traditional action cameras and smartphone video rigs. For now, all eyes are on whether these rumored devices can truly compete with the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 in real-world video quality, stabilization, and ease of use.
