DJI Osmo Pocket 4P Leak Points to Major Dynamic Range Upgrade and 3x Telephoto Camera
The DJI Osmo Pocket 4P appears to be moving closer to launch, and early details suggest it could be a major step forward for creators who want a compact camera with more professional-looking video quality.
DJI recently introduced the Osmo Pocket 4 as the successor to the Osmo Pocket 3, bringing several improvements to its pocket-sized vlogging camera lineup. However, the company already seems to be preparing an even more advanced model. Previously rumored as the Osmo Pocket 4 Pro, the device is now being teased as the Osmo Pocket 4P.
One of the biggest highlights expected from the Osmo Pocket 4P is the addition of a 3x telephoto lens. This would give creators more flexibility when filming distant subjects, portraits, travel scenes, events, and cinematic close-ups without relying only on digital zoom. For vloggers and mobile filmmakers, a dedicated telephoto camera could make the Osmo Pocket 4P much more versatile than earlier models.
DJI has also shown the Osmo Pocket 4P at the Cannes Film Festival, signaling that the company may be positioning this model as a more serious tool for filmmakers and content creators. The appearance at such a high-profile film event suggests DJI wants to highlight the camera’s upgraded video capabilities, especially for users who want cinematic footage from a small, stabilized device.
Beyond the new telephoto camera, the Osmo Pocket 4P is expected to bring a major dynamic range improvement. The camera reportedly supports 17 stops of dynamic range through its 1-inch-style main camera sensor. That would be a significant jump over the Osmo Pocket 4, which offers 14 stops of dynamic range.
Dynamic range is especially important for video creators because it determines how well a camera captures detail in both bright highlights and dark shadows. With 17 stops, the Osmo Pocket 4P should be better equipped for difficult lighting situations, such as sunsets, backlit scenes, night city shots, indoor filming near windows, and high-contrast outdoor environments.
This upgrade could help the Osmo Pocket 4P deliver more cinematic footage with improved highlight control, richer shadows, and smoother tonal transitions. For creators who color grade their videos, the wider dynamic range may also provide more flexibility in post-production.
The Osmo Pocket series has become popular because it combines a compact body, built-in stabilization, and easy handheld shooting. If the Osmo Pocket 4P adds a 3x telephoto lens and 17-stop dynamic range, it could become one of DJI’s most capable pocket cameras yet.
Full specifications are still unknown, including details about frame rates, battery life, storage options, recording formats, display changes, and whether DJI has improved autofocus or low-light performance. Pricing and global availability have also not been confirmed.
Still, the early information points to a clear direction: DJI is preparing a higher-end Osmo Pocket model aimed at creators who want more than a standard vlogging camera. With a dual-camera setup, stronger dynamic range, and a more cinematic focus, the Osmo Pocket 4P could be one of the most interesting compact camera launches of the year.
