A new leak has offered an early look at the possible price of Asus’ upcoming CX9406 Googlebook, and it suggests Google’s next-generation laptop category may not be aimed at budget buyers.
The Asus CX9406 Googlebook has been appearing in leaks and rumors alongside upcoming models from brands such as Acer and Lenovo. These devices are expected to represent a more premium tier above traditional Chromebooks, combining high-end hardware, sleek designs, and Google’s new software direction.
Google is expected to officially reveal the Googlebook lineup at an event in New York on September 15. Ahead of that launch, a leaked retailer listing has seemingly exposed both specifications and pricing for one Asus model.
According to the listing, the Asus CX9406 Googlebook variant in question will feature an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. While that configuration sounds fairly modest for a premium laptop, the leaked price is far from modest. The device is listed at CA$1,902.99, which converts to roughly $1,400.
That price could make the Asus Googlebook significantly more expensive than many buyers might expect from a device connected to the Chromebook family. However, Googlebooks appear to be positioned differently from affordable Chromebooks, focusing instead on premium performance, better build quality, and advanced features.
The Intel Core Ultra 5 325 is part of Intel’s Panther Lake generation and is expected to deliver solid everyday performance. With an 8-core design, it should be powerful enough for productivity, multitasking, web apps, media consumption, and general creative workloads. Early performance expectations suggest it could compete closely with some previous Core Ultra 7-class chips from Intel’s Lunar Lake lineup.

One of the biggest questions remains software. The Googlebook lineup is expected to run AluminiumOS, an Android-based operating system.
