Anticipation is building for the arrival of Google’s next budget-friendly smartphone, the Pixel 9a, which is rumored to make its debut much sooner than expected. Leaks suggest a March 2025 launch, an earlier release compared to previous models in Google’s lineup. This strategic move reflects Google’s intent to keep users on their toes with timely updates and fresh offerings.
Traditionally, Google has rolled out the more affordable Pixel variants in May, with recent releases like the Pixel 7a and 8a occurring in May 2023. However, with the Pixel 9 series unveiling two months ahead of schedule, the early March release of the Pixel 9a seems plausible.
The forthcoming Pixel 9a is promising subtle yet significant enhancements. Leaked designs suggest a new flat-frame structure paired with a pill-shaped camera module, moving away from its predecessor’s central design. Powering the Pixel 9a is expected to be the Tensor G4 chipset, similar to that of the Pixel 9. However, the device is reportedly set to use an Integrated Package on Package (IPoP), as opposed to the more power-efficient Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging (FOPLP). This could lead to a slightly bulkier build but with powerful performance capabilities.
Adding to its appeal, the Pixel 9a will reportedly be available in four distinct colors: Porcelain, Obsidian, Peony, and a new blue-violet shade known as Iris, offering consumers a fresh palette to choose from.
Looking ahead, Google appears to be planning an early August 2025 launch for the Pixel 10, aligning with the idea of a revamped release schedule. Android 16 is also anticipated to make its appearance around Q2 2025, complete with its AOSP release by June’s end, potentially coinciding with the Pixel 10 launch.
