JBL has refreshed its wallet-friendly Flip Essential lineup with a brand-new model, the JBL Flip Essential 3 SE. Launching first in China, this updated portable Bluetooth speaker arrives about three years after the Flip Essential 2, giving buyers a new option for everyday listening without stepping up to the pricier main Flip series.
Designed in JBL’s familiar cylindrical shape, the Flip Essential 3 SE comes in a clean gray finish with the brand’s signature fabric exterior. It’s also built for life on the go, featuring an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. That means it’s better suited for outdoor use, whether you’re taking it to the beach, setting it near a pool, or just bringing it along for travel.
Audio is handled by a dual-speaker setup that includes a 10W tweeter and a 20W woofer. JBL lists a dynamic frequency response range of 63Hz to 20kHz, aiming to deliver a balanced mix of bass, mids, and treble for casual listening at home or outdoors. In terms of portability, it measures 180 × 69.5 × 72mm and weighs 550g, making it compact enough to fit in a bag while still offering higher output than ultra-mini speakers.
For connectivity, the Flip Essential 3 SE uses Bluetooth 5.4 and supports Auracast, a feature that helps with modern multi-speaker broadcasting scenarios. You can also pair it with a second unit for a true stereo setup, which is ideal if you want wider sound for a room or a small gathering.
Battery life is another key focus. The speaker packs a 4,800mAh battery, with JBL advertising up to 12 hours of playback on a charge. Charging is rated at about three hours when using a 15W charger, which should make it easy to top up between trips or before heading out.
Because this is part of JBL’s more affordable Flip Essential family, it does make a few compromises compared with the main Flip models. Notably, it skips voice assistant integration and doesn’t support the JBL Portable app, so buyers should expect a more straightforward, no-frills experience centered on basic playback and durability.
Pricing in China is set at CNY 899 (around $132 / €112). For now, it’s only confirmed for the Chinese market, and there’s no official word yet on when—or if—the JBL Flip Essential 3 SE will get a wider international release.
