JBL Cove Wi-Fi Speakers Launch in the UK With Whole-Home Audio, Dolby Atmos Music, and Sonos-Style Controls
JBL is bringing its new Cove whole-home Wi-Fi speaker lineup to the UK, giving buyers another option in the growing market for app-controlled multi-room audio systems. The range includes three models: the JBL Cove M1, JBL Cove P1, and JBL Cove X1, with prices starting at £199.99.
The JBL Cove M1 is priced at £199.99, the Cove P1 costs £399.99, and the premium Cove X1 is available for £429.99. All three speakers come in black and white finishes and are designed to work together through the JBL One app.
The Cove lineup is built around JBL’s own wireless audio platform. Instead of relying only on a direct Bluetooth connection to a phone, these speakers connect through a home Wi-Fi network. That means music can continue playing even if your phone leaves the room, takes a call, or disconnects from Bluetooth. It also allows several speakers to be grouped together for synchronized music across different rooms.
With the JBL One app, users can play music on a single speaker, pair two matching speakers for stereo sound, or connect multiple units throughout the home. You can have the same song playing everywhere or set different rooms to play different audio, making the system suitable for both casual listening and full-home entertainment.
Setup is designed to be simple. JBL says each Cove speaker can be configured in three steps using the JBL One app, and an account is not required. Each speaker also includes a dedicated Moment button. A quick press can launch a saved playlist, radio station, or Spotify Tap session, while a longer press activates JBL’s Music Follows Me feature, which brings audio from another room into the current one.
One of the more interesting parts of the Cove system is its automatic room tuning. Each speaker can adjust its sound based on its surroundings, helping it perform better whether placed on a shelf, table, or in a corner. JBL also includes Constant Sound Field technology, which is designed to keep the sound balanced across the room, along with AI Sound Boost to reduce distortion when the volume is pushed higher.
The JBL Cove M1 is the entry-level model in the series. It is a mains-powered 3.0-channel speaker rated at 110W and features three 20mm tweeters along with a 4-inch woofer. JBL positions it as a speaker for small to medium-sized rooms. It does not include Dolby Atmos support, but it offers a more affordable way into the Cove ecosystem.
The JBL Cove P1 is the most flexible model in the range. It includes a built-in battery rated for up to 14 hours of playback, making it suitable for moving around the house or taking outside. It also has an IP56 rating for dust and water resistance, and JBL includes a charging dock in the box. Unlike the M1, the P1 supports Dolby Atmos Music with the help of an up-firing driver. Inside, it uses four tweeters and a 4-inch woofer with a total output of 120W.
At the top of the lineup is the JBL Cove X1, a 200W Wi-Fi speaker made for larger rooms. It features four 30mm tweeters, including one upward-firing driver for Dolby Atmos height effects, plus two woofers for stronger bass and a larger soundstage. The X1 is wider and heavier than the other models, measuring 10.2 inches across and weighing close to 5kg. Unlike the P1, it does not have a battery and is intended as a fixed home speaker.
JBL is also connecting the Cove range to its home cinema ecosystem. Cove speakers can link with JBL Bar 300, Bar 500, Bar 800, Bar 1000, and Bar 1300 MK2 soundbars through the JBL One app. At launch, two Cove M1 or two Cove P1 speakers can be used as wireless rear channels in a Dolby Atmos surround sound setup. The Cove X1 can join soundbars for multi-room music playback, but not as a rear surround speaker at launch.
Streaming support is another strong point for the JBL Cove series. Each speaker supports Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, and Roon Ready playback. This broad compatibility should make the speakers appealing to users who rely on different streaming services or already have a mixed smart home setup.
Voice control is also planned. JBL says Amazon Alexa+ support will arrive through a future over-the-air update, although availability has only been confirmed for the United States so far.
The Cove speakers were first introduced in early September and launched in the US shortly afterward. US pricing is set at $229.95 for the Cove M1, $399.95 for the Cove P1, and $449.95 for the Cove X1. With the UK launch now underway, JBL is clearly positioning Cove as a serious alternative in the premium wireless multi-room speaker market.
For buyers looking for Wi-Fi speakers with whole-home audio, room tuning, Dolby Atmos Music support, broad streaming compatibility, and optional home cinema integration, the JBL Cove lineup could be one of the most interesting new speaker systems of the year.
