Introducing Milenas: The Compact WiFi-Enabled NAS with Up to 2TB Storage on Kickstarter

A new Kickstarter campaign is making waves with the launch of a truly compact network-attached storage device, the Milenas NAS. Billed as the smallest NAS with cloud integration, this device offers incredible portability with dimensions of just 3.6 x 1.8 x 0.6 inches and a lightweight design of 1.8 oz. Despite its small size, it doesn’t skimp on functionality, featuring WiFi connectivity and up to 2TB of storage.

Powered by an MT7628 SoC and equipped with 256MB of memory, the Milenas struggles a bit on the internal storage front with just 8GB, but it compensates with expandable storage options. It delivers data transfer rates up to 300Mbps over WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, though it lacks a traditional Ethernet port. The device is powered via a USB connection, requiring 5V and 1A.

One of its standout features is the ability to support multiple user profiles while allowing specific folders to be universally accessible—ideal for scenarios like family vacations. No app is needed for operation; users can easily connect devices using a QR code. Additionally, it supports various cloud storage services and can automatically back up photos and videos from smartphones. For transferring larger files, it can connect to laptops via USB, or users can employ USB Ethernet dongles.

The Milenas is compatible with OpenWrt, boasting flexibility with no software restrictions from the manufacturer. Early backers can secure a unit with a pledge of approximately $109, plus $15 shipping, with an expected delivery in November. As with all crowdfunding projects, financial risks are inherent.

For those seeking alternatives, devices like the Synology Beedrive are worth exploring.
