Intel’s Wildcat Lake chips are shaping up to be an important part of the next wave of affordable laptops. Designed for thin, efficient, low-cost notebooks, the lineup aims to challenge budget-friendly Apple MacBook Neo models by offering solid everyday performance, long battery life, and more flexible hardware options at a lower price point.

Early Wildcat Lake laptops already show what Intel is trying to achieve. Devices such as the Dell XPS 13 demonstrate that these chips can power extremely lightweight machines while still delivering competitive performance for daily tasks. In some areas, Windows laptops using Wildcat Lake may even have an edge, especially when it comes to port selection, display refresh rates, and overall configuration choices.

Now, Intel is reportedly preparing a stronger follow-up: Wildcat Lake Refresh. The upgraded processor family is expected to deliver a notable jump in CPU performance, mainly by increasing the number of performance cores.

The current Intel Core 7 350 reportedly features two performance cores with boost speeds of up to 4.8 GHz, along with four low-power cores reaching up to 3.6 GHz. Wildcat Lake Refresh, however, is said to raise the maximum configuration to four performance cores and four low-power cores.

That change could make a big difference for affordable laptops. More performance cores should improve multitasking, productivity apps, web browsing with many tabs open, light content creation, and general system responsiveness. For users who want a budget laptop that feels fast without paying premium prices, this could be one of the most important upgrades Intel brings to the market.

If the latest leak proves accurate, the fastest Intel Wildcat Lake Refresh chip could outperform the Apple A18 Pro used in the MacBook Neo. Graphics performance is also unlikely to see a major leap. Intel is expected to continue using an integrated GPU with two Xe3 cores.
