Hyper Sentinel Fusion is bringing classic arcade shooting back in a way that feels both nostalgic and surprisingly modern. Built as a fast-paced retro shooter with roguelite progression and extraction-style runs, the game is slated for a 2026 release and is even getting a special “floppy disk” edition—complete with a clever twist designed for today’s PCs.
This new entry comes from father-and-son developers Andrew and Rob Hewson, continuing the Hyper Sentinel series that began with 2018’s Hyper Sentinel. That earlier game took inspiration from beloved Commodore 64-era action classics, and Hyper Sentinel Fusion doubles down on that same retro spirit—right down to its throwback physical presentation.
The Kickstarter campaign for the floppy disk edition is already gaining momentum. It has raised around $16,000 from more than 300 backers and is moving toward a funding target of $20,224. With 31 days still on the clock and roughly 75% of the goal hit within the first 24 hours, it’s shaping up to be a strong run. If funded, the project is expected to move forward across PC, Mac, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PS4, alongside the limited special-edition “floppy” release.
So how does a floppy disk release make sense in 2026, when floppy drives have long disappeared from most computers? The answer is a collector-friendly hybrid: the “floppy disk” is actually a 3.5-inch sliding disk-style case that hides a USB stick inside. The USB comes loaded with a DRM-free version of the game for PC and Mac, plus bonus extras—capturing the feeling of cracking open a piece of old-school software while still working seamlessly on modern hardware. The physical set is also described as coming with a full-color manual and additional goodies packaged in a premium boxed presentation.
For backers, the campaign includes multiple tiers aimed at both digital players and retro collectors. Early Bird backers pledging £25 or £30 get the digital pack and a copy of Hyper Sentinel Fusion on the platform of their choice. At £45, the rewards expand to include the original Hyper Sentinel delivered on a USB cassette, plus a digital PC copy. There’s also a £150 tier for devoted fans, which includes a name placement in the Fallen Heroes Log Book Lore, a Certificate of Authenticity, and beta access on PC so supporters can play ahead of launch.
Gameplay-wise, Hyper Sentinel Fusion builds on what made the 2018 title stand out, while adding more structure and tension through its roguelite and extraction elements. You’ll pilot a starfighter through procedurally generated alien megastructures, blasting through waves of enemies. The action then shifts into infiltration missions where you board enemy ships, deploy a Hyper Droid, and race to loot valuable resources and weapons. Your ultimate objective is hunting down the Alienoid Cortex before the ship detonates. If you fail, you’re sent back to your Moonbase, where the resources you managed to secure can be invested into upgrades to strengthen future runs.
Development is reportedly about 80% complete, and the team is aiming for a summer 2026 release window. Between the arcade-first combat, the procedural sci-fi runs, and the collector-style floppy-inspired USB edition, Hyper Sentinel Fusion is positioning itself as a must-watch for fans of retro shooters and modern roguelite progression alike.
