Huawei Rolls Out a Major New Update for Two of Its Smartwatches

Huawei has started rolling out a fresh software update for two of its latest wearables: the Huawei Watch GT 6 and Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro. Launched in Europe in September 2025 as the next step up from the GT 5 series, both models are now getting update version 6.0.0.173, bringing new fitness tools, smarter health alerts, and a handful of practical upgrades that should improve everyday use.

The standout addition in this release is a new real-time virtual cadence feature designed with outdoor cyclists in mind. Cadence is a key cycling metric that reflects how fast you’re pedaling, and this new tool calculates the value based on your pedalling pace while you ride. For anyone tracking performance, training efficiency, or simply aiming for a steadier rhythm on longer routes, the feature can make on-wrist cycling stats more useful and easier to follow in real time.

Huawei is also improving its high-altitude monitoring capabilities. With the updated system, the smartwatch can use health data such as heart rate and SpO2 (blood oxygen) to trigger alerts if it detects signs that may suggest altitude adaptation issues. This kind of nudge can be particularly helpful for travelers, hikers, and athletes training at elevation who want an extra layer of awareness, especially in conditions where fatigue and oxygen changes can sneak up quickly.

Beyond health and fitness, the update includes several refinements aimed at smoothing out daily features. Huawei says music playback has been “optimized,” though it doesn’t break down exactly what changed. Users may notice improvements in responsiveness or stability when controlling playback from the watch.

There are also enhancements related to the Huawei Health app, specifically around the time display tied to actions like swiping a car key or smart lock key card. In addition, Huawei notes improved connectivity with third-party wireless earbuds, which could mean more reliable pairing and fewer connection hiccups when listening on the go.

Finally, the company says overall system stability has been optimized in certain situations, without listing specific scenarios—typical wording that often points to behind-the-scenes bug fixes and performance tuning.

Update 6.0.0.173 appears to be rolling out globally for Watch GT 6 and Watch GT 6 Pro users. As with many smartwatch updates, availability may vary by region and could arrive in waves over the coming weeks.
