HP’s Envy laptop series has consistently offered great value, blending a significant portion of the premium quality and performance found in the Spectre series into a more budget-friendly package. The HP Envy 14 2-in-1 is a prime example, and a recent sale at Best Buy makes these versatile Ryzen-powered convertibles even more appealing.
The HP Envy 14 2-in-1 with the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS has been marked down by $450, making its final sale price $599.99. Meanwhile, the version with the Ryzen 5 8640HS is now priced at $549.99. However, Best Buy Plus members, who pay an annual fee of $49.99, receive an additional $70 discount on the Ryzen 5 variant, reducing its price to $479.99. This membership deal is particularly worthwhile for those who regularly shop at Best Buy and can offset the membership cost across multiple purchases.
Hardware-wise, the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 versions of the HP Envy 14 2-in-1 share many similarities, differing primarily in their CPUs, integrated GPUs (iGPUs), and storage capacities. Both models come equipped with 16 GB of DDR5-6400 RAM, have the same 1920×1200 IPS touchscreens, and feature a 360-degree hinge, making them suitable for tasks such as note-taking and digital art when used with accessories like the Wacom Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus.
The major distinctions between the two versions are in CPU, GPU performance, and storage. The Ryzen 5 model includes a 512 GB NVMe SSD, while the Ryzen 7 variant offers a 1 TB SSD. The eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS and its Radeon 780M iGPU provide comparable performance to some gaming consoles, whereas the Ryzen 5 8640HS has a slower Radeon 760M iGPU and two fewer CPU cores.
A notable drawback of the HP Envy 14 2-in-1 is its display. While the 1920×1200 resolution is sufficient for a 14-inch screen and the display supports FreeSync, its brightness peaks at 300 nits with a 60 Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the color reproduction is subpar, covering only 62.5% of the sRGB color space.
On the plus side, the HP Envy 14 2-in-1 offers robust connectivity options, featuring dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports with 10 Gbps output, a 3.5 mm audio combo jack, and an HDMI 2.1 port for video output.
