The upcoming Google Pixel 9 is starting to shape up as a big player in the smartphone market, primed to challenge competitors with its impressive features. With dimensions of 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm, the Pixel 9 sets itself apart as larger than its predecessor, the Pixel 8, as well as the anticipated iPhone 15 Pro. However, the Pixel 9 Pro will still dwarf the Pixel 9 with its more expansive dimensions of 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5 mm.
A distinct departure from the Pixel 8 series, the Google Pixel 9 is expected to leave behind the wraparound camera housing and instead, introduce a camera housing inspired by the Pixel Fold, which hit the market last May. Notably, despite its comparably smaller size, the Pixel 9’s camera bump is rumored to extend up to 12 mm at certain points due to a substantial camera module.
Camera capabilities appear to be front and center with the Pixel 9, which is rumored to include a dedicated periscope telephoto camera. This advanced piece of optics has already been featured in the Pixel 8 Pro and the Pixel Fold, indicating that Google is committed to providing top-tier zoom capabilities in its smartphone lineup.
Speculations also hint at a potential temperature sensor integrated into the Pixel 9, similar to what was seen in the Pixel 8 Pro, indicated by a small circular cut-out beneath the LED flash array. Though the exact specifications of the camera hardware are still under wraps, including whether the Pixel 9 will inherit the 10.8 MP or the 48 MP telephoto cameras from its predecessors, anticipation continues to build around this feature-rich handset.
With each new detail, the Google Pixel 9 is positioning itself as a contender worth watching in the smartphone arena, especially for those intrigued by the merging of design elements from Apple’s iPhone and Google’s innovations in camera technology and possibly health-oriented features.
