Samsung Galaxy S24 Introduces Circle to Search AI Feature, Now Available on Pixel Phones

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series marked the introduction of a range of AI-powered features, one of the standouts being the Circle to Search with Google. This innovative feature uses Google’s technology to identify and search for items or subjects within images on the screen. Initially an exclusive for the Galaxy S24 series, the feature is now being extended to other devices.

Google Pixel Phones Receive Circle to Search Feature

Google’s own Pixel phones have now received the Circle to Search feature, with the update currently limited to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models. This addition is part of the latest Pixel Feature Drop update. Users can look forward to accessing this feature starting January 31, 2024, simultaneous with the Galaxy S24 series release. The feature can be accessed by long-pressing the home button and drawing a circle around the object in question, offering a faster alternative to Google Lens. An in-depth demonstration can be viewed via a video link.

The Pixel Feature Drop also introduces additional functionalities, such as the ability to measure your body temperature using the phone’s temperature sensor—an enhancement from its earlier constraints of only measuring non-human temperatures. This medical-grade feature is expected to be regulated but the precision of its readings is yet to be evaluated. Additionally, the Magic Compose feature is made available to Pixel 7 and newer models, offering on-the-go rewriting of messages to improve wording, although older models will require an internet connection for this functionality.

New Improvements to Pixel Phones with the Latest Update

Alongside these features, the update integrates the new Quick Share functionality, which stems from the combination of Google’s Nearby Share and Samsung’s Quick Share systems. This now standardized feature facilitates file sharing across multiple platforms—including Android devices, Chrome OS, and Windows. Another enhancement is the improved Audio Switching for Pixel devices. This feature allows Pixel Buds to seamlessly switch their connection between Pixel devices based on active media playback.

For a more personal touch in communication, the new update also introduces the Photomoji feature in Google Messages for RCS, enabling users to create emojis from personal images, such as pictures of themselves or their pets. These custom Photomojis can be stored for subsequent use. The Pixel Feature Drop is slated to roll out over the following weeks to compatible Pixel smartphones and tablets.
