Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series has been a trailblazer with its range of new camera features, benefiting from the latest processors and sophisticated Neural Processing Units (NPUs). Interestingly, a selection of these camera functionalities will not be exclusive to the Galaxy S24 line but will also be made available to previous Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
On the Samsung South Korea Community Forum, a list of features destined for older Galaxy devices was shared, highlighting advancements such as 12MP images from Motion Photos, simplified methods for capturing long-exposure shots, cross-device video editing sync, HDR support in social media apps, enhanced Single Take feature, and AI-powered colorization for black and white photos. The exclusive Live HDR Preview functionality, however, will remain a feature only available on the Galaxy S24.
### Transforming Motion Photos to High-Resolution Images and Artistic Long Exposures
A standout capability of the Galaxy S24 is transforming any frame from a Motion Photo into a 12MP still image using AI upscaling. This feature, among others, will become accessible on various devices with the One UI 6.1 update. Additionally, Motion Photos can be converted into eye-catching long-exposure images for an artistic flair. It is important to note that creating Motion Photos in low-light conditions requires disabling the Nightography feature.
### Enhanced Video Editing with Samsung Studio
Samsung Studio, the rebranded integrated video editor for Samsung devices, introduces the flexibility to modify video speed at specific intervals instead of the entire footage. In a boost to continuity, edits started on one Samsung device can now be finished on another, such as moving from a smartphone to a laptop or tablet. The rollout of this improved editing experience will reach certain devices with the One UI 6.1 update, although the specific models have not been disclosed.
### Improving Social Media Content with HDR and Stabilization
With the Galaxy S24, users gained the capability to shoot and upload Super HDR content directly to social platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. These increased HDR capabilities for a more vibrant viewing experience will now be accessible on older models. Furthermore, the UniHAL+ structure will enable features like low-light noise reduction in videos, Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), and sophisticated scene recognition while using social media apps. However, these specific enhancements are set aside for the Galaxy S24 and its successors.
Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the user experience extends beyond its newest releases by integrating cutting-edge camera features into older models. Users with previous Galaxy smartphones and tablets can look forward to receiving the One UI 6.1 update, embracing a new era of mobile photography and video creation.Samsung’s Galaxy S24 is set to advance the capabilities of smartphone photography with its array of innovative camera features, some of which will also become available on older models through the One UI 6.1 update.
### Improved Single Take
Samsung is introducing an upgraded version of the Single Take camera mode with the Galaxy S24, enhancing user control by allowing the selection of a specific camera – ultrawide, primary, 3x zoom, 5x zoom, or 10x zoom – before taking pictures and videos. Unlike previous versions, the new Single Take can also recognize pets, which will undoubtedly result in better snapshots and footage of your furry friends.
This camera enhancement will be available not just for Galaxy S24 users but will also be extended to a range of other Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy S23 lineup, the Galaxy Tab S9 variants, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Fold 5, alongside the forthcoming One UI 6.1 update.
### AI-Enhanced Colorization of Monochrome Images
The One UI 6.1 update introduces a feature that leverages artificial intelligence to colorize black and white photos. This feature will be exclusive to the Galaxy S24 and select future Galaxy smartphones equipped with One UI 6.1. A powerful NPU within the device’s processor is necessary for the function to operate effectively, implying that it may be restricted to more advanced and newer models.
### Exclusive Galaxy S24 Camera Features
Samsung has confirmed that several camera features of the Galaxy S24 will remain unique to the latest device and will not be backported to older Galaxy smartphones and tablets through the One UI 6.1 update. This includes:
1. Camera functionalities reliant on Samsung’s UniHAL+ structure.
2. AI-powered editing tools.
3. Super HDR live preview within the camera app.
4. Nightography enhancements for zoomed photos and videos.
5. Dual-sensor portrait videos.
6. Spatial and Temporal Video Zoom.
7. Near-zero shutter lag for fast image capture, aided by a superior ISP and NPU.
8. Professional-grade options such as Anamorphic Lens Compensation, Audio Monitoring, and DOF Adapter Calibration.

10. Adjustable video playback speeds at different segments.
These features depend on the hardware specifications and technological advancements found within the Galaxy S24 series, which may not be compatible with the hardware in older devices. Samsung users can look forward to experiencing these innovations firsthand on the Galaxy S24 or can enjoy the improved Single Take feature and other updates when they arrive on supported devices with the One UI 6.1 update.
