GMKtec EVO-X5 PRO Debuts as a Compact AI Workstation With AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 495

GMKtec has introduced its new flagship mini workstation, the EVO-X5 PRO, a powerful compact PC designed for AI workloads, professional computing, local model deployment, and high-performance multitasking. The system is built around AMD’s Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 495 processor, one of the company’s fastest AI-focused chips to date.

The EVO-X5 PRO continues GMKtec’s EVO lineup, following earlier models such as the EVO-X2 and EVO-X3. This time, however, the company is targeting users who need serious workstation-class performance in a much smaller form factor. That includes AI developers, creators, engineers, researchers, and businesses looking for local AI computing without relying entirely on cloud infrastructure.

At the heart of the GMKtec EVO-X5 PRO is the AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 495, also known by its “Gorgon Halo” platform name. This chip features 16 cores and 32 threads based on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture, with boost clock speeds of up to 5.2 GHz and 64 MB of cache. The processor supports a configurable power range between 45W and 120W, giving users flexibility depending on whether they want lower power consumption, balanced operation, or maximum performance.

GMKtec says the EVO-X5 PRO includes three selectable power modes, allowing users to adjust the system based on their current workload. This could be especially useful for AI tasks, where some projects may require sustained high performance while others can run more efficiently at lower power levels.

The Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 495 also includes a high-end integrated Radeon 8065S GPU. This graphics unit features 40 compute units and can run at up to 3000 MHz. Alongside the GPU, the chip includes AMD’s XDNA 2 NPU, capable of delivering up to 55 TOPS of AI performance. Combined across the CPU, GPU, and NPU, the platform offers up to 131 TOPS of total AI compute performance.

One of the biggest highlights of the EVO-X5 PRO is its memory configuration. GMKtec equips the mini workstation with 192 GB of unified memory running at 8533 MT/s. Even more importantly for AI users, up to 160 GB of that memory can be allocated to the GPU. This is a major advantage for running large AI models locally, including models with more than 300 billion parameters, depending on the software environment and optimization.

Storage is also a major focus. The EVO-X5 PRO supports up to 24 TB of storage through a triple M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 setup. Each slot supports up to 8 TB, making the system suitable for users working with massive datasets, AI training files, media libraries, 3D assets, or professional project archives.

GMKtec is positioning the EVO-X5 PRO as a compact alternative to much larger AI workstation systems. The company claims its mini workstation can deliver 66% faster CPU orchestration and 40% lower cost per completed AI workflow compared with NVIDIA’s DGX Spark. As with all manufacturer performance claims, real-world results will depend on workload, software optimization, configuration, and testing conditions.

The design of the EVO-X5 PRO is also built with premium materials. GMKtec uses a CNC all-metal chassis, giving the mini PC a durable and professional appearance. The system also includes an all-in-one smart function key, designed to provide quick access to system-level controls or performance-related functions.

Connectivity is another strong point. The EVO-X5 PRO includes dual front USB4 ports, dual rear USB4 V2 ports with external GPU support, 8K video output, dual USB 3.2 ports, dual 10GbE Ethernet LAN ports, and HDMI. The USB4 V2 ports can also be used for cluster-style configurations, allowing multiple units to work together for more demanding compute workloads.

To manage heat, GMKtec has equipped the EVO-X5 PRO with an upgraded vapor chamber heat spreader and a triple-fan cooling system. The cooling solution uses smart thermal control technology, which should help balance fan noise, temperatures, and sustained performance during heavy workloads.

On the software side, the EVO-X5 PRO comes with GMKtec’s Claw AI agent solution. It also supports AMD DASH remote management through an RJ45 DASH network adapter, making it suitable for enterprise and IT-managed environments. For security, the system includes a dedicated dTPM 2.0 chip.

The GMKtec EVO-X5 PRO is expected to launch in October. Pricing has not yet been announced, but with its Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 495 processor, 192 GB unified memory, powerful integrated GPU, large storage capacity, and AI-focused features, it is clearly aimed at the high-end mini workstation market.
