Garmin’s Latest Update Brings Smarter Workout Gains to Multiple Smartwatch Models

Garmin is shaking up its usual update routine for the Instinct E, Instinct 3, and Instinct Crossover AMOLED, and owners may have already noticed the unusually fast pace of recent software releases.

Normally, Garmin rolls out several beta builds, gathers feedback, then wraps things up with a single stable update once everything is finalized. But with the current v13.xx software development cycle, the company has taken a different approach—pushing updates more rapidly and with smaller changes between versions.

It’s been less than a month since System Software 13.25 arrived, yet Garmin quickly followed it with multiple incremental releases. That streak led to System Software 13.28 landing at the end of February, and notably, it carried the same changelog as System Software 13.27 that came right before it—an unusual move that hinted the company was iterating quickly behind the scenes.

Now Garmin has advanced to version 13.29, though it’s currently limited to users enrolled in the Garmin Beta Program. What’s especially interesting is how focused this release is: compared to System Software 13.28, v13.29 adds just one new fix.

The key change addresses a bug that could cause the watch to crash when using Interval Workouts. For athletes and training-focused users who rely on structured workout sessions, that’s a meaningful improvement even if it’s the only item on the list.

Based on Garmin’s recent release cadence, this beta update may not stay exclusive for long. If the company follows the same pattern as it has in recent weeks, v13.29 is likely to move from beta to the stable update channel soon as System Software 13.29, bringing the interval workout crash fix to a wider range of Instinct smartwatch users.
