Garmin Supercharges Its Wearables With New Metrics and Smarter Upgrades

Garmin Descent X30 gets first stable update with new pro-level data fields and key fixes

Garmin is rolling out system software version 2.07 for the Descent X30, the company’s scuba diving computer launched in September 2025 as a more affordable alternative to the X50i. This first stable firmware adds advanced dive metrics, refines depth tracking, and fixes a handful of usability bugs.

What’s new and improved
– New technical data fields: Fraction of Inspired Oxygen (FiO2), Gas Density, and GF99 for more detailed, in-dive decision support.
– Enhanced depth monitoring: improved in-dive performance from the depth sensor for more reliable readings.
– Dive Log stability: optimizations to help ensure logs save and sync more consistently.

Bug fixes
– Surface Interval time: an issue that could truncate SI time in the Main Menu has been resolved.
– Passcode and hotkey lock: you can now use the hotkey to lock or unlock the device even when a passcode lock is enabled.
– Translations: Garmin Connect Mobile translations updated to version 2.05.

Why it matters
Technical divers and anyone pushing into more advanced profiles will appreciate the addition of FiO2, Gas Density, and GF99. FiO2 helps track oxygen content for safer planning, Gas Density supports better awareness of breathing effort at depth, and GF99 offers real-time insight into decompression status using gradient factors. Combined with better depth sensing and a more reliable dive log, the X30 becomes a stronger companion for both training and challenging dives.

How to get the update
– On the watch: open System Settings and check for software updates.
– With a computer: connect the device and update through Garmin Express.

The Descent X30 remains positioned as a capable, budget-friendlier dive computer, with recent listings around $749.99 depending on retailer and region. If you own one, system software 2.07 is well worth installing before your next dive.
