Garmin’s latest update adds two new apps and faster performance to your wrist

Garmin’s premium dive computer, the Descent X50i, is getting a significant firmware upgrade to system software 4.05, following its July 2025 update that refined touch controls. This new release focuses on smarter tools for dive planning, clearer in-dive insights, better battery awareness, and a round of practical fixes.

What’s new and improved in version 4.05:
– New apps: Weather & Tides and Notifications, giving divers quick access to conditions and alerts.
– Garmin Share support for easier content sharing.
– Vertical screen flip option so you can move the control buttons to the top if you prefer.
– NDL Aware Depth Metrics added to in-dive fields for more actionable no-decompression insights.
– Pre-dive checklist now includes low battery warnings.
– Connected inReach battery level can appear in the status bar.
– Battery statistics can be logged as part of your diving activity for better post-dive analysis.
– System alerts can be managed directly from the watch settings.
– Improved alerts for critically low tank pressure.

Bug fixes address issues with travel gas entries in dive plans, the compass not clearing as expected, and occasional cut-off dive charts.

Rollout and how to update:
A company representative indicates the 4.05 rollout has reached at least half of Descent X50i units, with a broader release to follow. To update, use the Garmin Dive app, Garmin Express on a computer, or check directly on the watch by navigating to Prev > Settings > System > Check for Updates.

For divers, this release delivers clearer situational awareness, more control over alerts, and a smoother experience before, during, and after each dive—making it a worthwhile update to install as soon as it becomes available to your device.
