Garmin Rolls Out Premium Smartwatch Update, But Major Bugs Remain Unfixed

Garmin Rolls Out Beta Version 23.25 for Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro, But Key Bugs Still Remain

Garmin has released another beta update for its premium smartwatch lineup, including the Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro. The new software, Beta Version 23.25, arrives shortly after Beta Version 23.24, which was issued on August 13 as part of the ongoing v23.xx beta cycle.

The latest update is being delivered over the air to users enrolled in Garmin’s Beta Program. Owners of compatible devices, including the Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro, and related high-end Garmin watches, should receive the update automatically if their smartwatch is registered for beta testing.

However, the rollout has created some confusion among users. Garmin has not clearly detailed what has changed between Beta Version 23.24 and Beta Version 23.25. Instead, the company appears to have reused the same changelog from the previous beta release. That has left testers wondering whether the new build includes hidden fixes, minor internal improvements, or simply a small maintenance update.

Beta Version 23.24 previously introduced more than half a dozen changes, with some improvements aimed specifically at Pro models and the Tactix 8. Since Garmin has not provided a unique changelog for Beta Version 23.25, it is currently difficult to confirm whether any meaningful new features or bug fixes have been added.

Unfortunately, early user feedback suggests that several frustrating issues have not yet been resolved. Some Fenix 8 owners report that frequent reboot problems continue to affect their watches even after installing Beta Version 23.25. Others say display wake-up bugs are still present, with screens failing to activate properly in certain situations.

These reports are especially important because Garmin’s Fenix series is positioned as a premium smartwatch range for athletes, outdoor users, and fitness enthusiasts who rely on dependable performance. Features such as GPS tracking, health monitoring, activity recording, navigation, and long battery life are central to the appeal of the Fenix 8 lineup, so stability issues can be particularly disruptive.

For now, Beta Version 23.25 appears to be another step in Garmin’s ongoing effort to prepare the next stable software release. Still, with rebooting and display-related complaints continuing, some users may prefer to wait before joining the beta program or updating a primary device used for training, travel, or outdoor activities.

Garmin has not yet confirmed when a stable update based on the current v23.xx beta development will be released. Until then, Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro owners in the beta program can expect further test builds as the company works to refine the software and address remaining bugs.
