Samsung’s Galaxy XR is here, and it’s clearly aiming at the high end of spatial computing. Designed as a premium mixed reality headset, it combines a high-resolution micro-OLED display, a deep sensor array, and secure biometric login to deliver an immersive XR experience that rivals the best in the category.
Visuals are a major headline. The Galaxy XR uses a 3,552 x 3,840 micro-OLED panel with a wide 109-degree horizontal and 100-degree vertical field of view. It supports refresh rates up to 90 Hz and covers 90% of the DCI-P3 color space, setting the stage for crisp detail, smooth motion, and vibrant color in virtual environments and passthrough experiences.
Content creators will appreciate built-in 3D capture. A 6.5 MP camera allows the headset to record 3D photos and videos, adding an easy way to preserve immersive memories or prototype spatial content without extra gear.
Tracking and presence are handled by an extensive sensor suite, similar to what you’d expect from top-tier mixed reality devices. The Galaxy XR includes two passthrough cameras, six tracking cameras, four eye-tracking cameras, five inertial measurement units, a depth sensor, and a flicker sensor. For security and quick sign-in, it adds dedicated iris-based biometric authentication.
Comfort and practicality get attention as well. The headset weighs 545 grams with the forehead cushion installed. For longer sessions, a backup battery can be attached, adding 303 grams. Vision correction is supported via prescription lenses sold separately, making the device accessible to users with myopia or hypermetropia.
On battery life, Samsung notes that the stated figure applies to 2D content streamed from the internet; real-world usage will vary based on tasks like mixed reality passthrough, 3D capture, and interactive apps.
At launch, availability is limited to the United States and South Korea. There’s no official word yet on broader global release plans.
