Framework Laptop 13 Pro RAM Prices Surge as LPCAMM2 Memory Costs Spike
Framework is raising prices on high-capacity LPCAMM2 memory upgrades for the upcoming Laptop 13 Pro, and the increase is steep. The company has nearly doubled the cost of its 32GB and 64GB RAM module options after receiving a sudden pricing update from its memory supplier.
The 32GB LPCAMM2 module has jumped from $439 to $800, while the 64GB option has climbed from $849 to $1,600. The change arrives just before the first Framework Laptop 13 Pro units are expected to begin shipping, making the timing especially difficult for both the company and customers planning to configure higher-end systems.
Framework founder Nirav Patel said the company had expected memory costs to rise, but not at this scale. According to Patel, Framework had planned for a low-to-mid double-digit percentage increase between the second and third quarters. Instead, the updated pricing from its supplier came in at more than double the cost of the previous inventory.
Patel explained that the company could not absorb such a large increase without putting its own financial stability at risk. The broader memory shortage has already been pushing up prices across the PC market, but the latest LPCAMM2 pricing appears to have hit Framework particularly hard because of the modular design and upgrade-focused nature of its laptops.
To manage the limited stock of 64GB LPCAMM2 modules, Framework is handling affected orders by batch. The company says it has enough 64GB modules to cover Laptop 13 Pro pre-orders through Batch 4 and Mainboard pre-orders through Batch 7. Orders beyond those batches that were configured with 64GB of memory are being changed to 32GB modules at the original 32GB price.
The company is also reallocating its remaining 32GB modules. DIY Edition and Mainboard pre-orders with 32GB memory will be covered through Batch 4 for laptops and Batch 7 for Mainboards. After that, affected 32GB configurations are being adjusted to 16GB modules at the original 16GB price.
There is one exception. Framework is not adjusting certain pre-built Core X7 Ultra configurations that originally included 32GB of RAM because it does not currently offer that model with 16GB of memory. The company says it plans to introduce that configuration later.
For now, Framework will continue selling 16GB LPCAMM2 modules for $239 while existing inventory lasts. Once that stock runs out, the 16GB option is also expected to receive a price increase.
The RAM price hike is not the only change coming to Framework’s pricing. The company is also increasing prices on some X7 and X9 systems and Mainboards. These increases are being attributed to higher chip costs, Windows licensing fees, and the more expensive memory and storage used in Ryzen AI 300 configurations.
However, not every component is getting more expensive. Framework says it has found lower pricing on some parts, including 48GB DDR5 modules and select SSDs such as the SN850X 8TB and SN7100 1TB. At the same time, other storage options, including the SN850X 1TB and SN7100 4TB, are set to become more expensive.
Framework says customers with unfulfilled pre-orders will benefit if their selected components have dropped in price. If a customer’s configuration includes parts that have become more expensive, Framework says it will still honor the price paid at the time of pre-order.
The Laptop 13 Pro is still expected to begin shipping in late July. That gives Framework very little time to finalize pricing, inventory, and order adjustments before the first units go out to customers.
The situation highlights a growing challenge in the laptop market. Demand for memory and storage has been climbing sharply, driven in part by the rapid expansion of AI hardware and data center needs. As a result, PC makers are facing higher component costs, and those increases are beginning to reach consumers.
Framework’s Laptop 13 Pro remains a highly anticipated modular laptop, especially for buyers who value repairability, upgradability, and long-term ownership. But with 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 memory now costing significantly more, the final price of a high-end configuration could become a major factor for customers deciding whether to upgrade now or wait for the memory market to cool down.
