Nintendo has added the cult-classic shooter Forsaken to the Nintendo Switch Online service, giving paid subscribers another dose of retro action. First launched in 1998 by Probe Entertainment and Acclaim for Windows and the original PlayStation, the high-speed, sci-fi shooter later arrived on Nintendo 64 via Iguana UK. It resurfaced in 2018 with a remaster from Nightdive Studios for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Xbox One, and now it’s back again for a new audience on Switch.
There’s more good news for retro RPG fans in Japan. Nintendo Switch Online in that region has also welcomed Magical Vacation, the 2001 Game Boy Advance role-playing game from Brownie Brown. While the original never left Japan, its sequel, Magical Starsign, made its way to Nintendo DS and received a western release, giving fans outside Japan a taste of the series’ charm.
Nintendo has shared new trailers showcasing what’s new, offering a quick look at why these titles still resonate with retro enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is the premium tier of the company’s subscription service, expanding the library with a growing catalog of classics across platforms like NES, SNES, Game Boy, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo 64. With Forsaken joining the lineup and Japan getting Magical Vacation, it’s a strong moment for players who love rediscovering formative hits and long-lost gems on modern hardware.
Whether you’re returning to Forsaken’s fast-paced, futuristic combat or exploring the origins of Magical Starsign through Magical Vacation, these additions underscore Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to preserving gaming history while making it easy to jump in on Switch.
