Paradox Reboots Bloodlines 2 with a Full Overhaul, Issues Refunds to Fans

Paradox refunds PlayStation Premium Edition pre-orders for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 after day-one DLC backlash

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 just hit a major turning point, and for once it’s not about development delays. Paradox Interactive is issuing automatic refunds for all PlayStation Premium Edition pre-orders starting September 8, following intense community backlash over two vampire clans being locked behind a $22 day-one DLC paywall.

The controversy erupted after Paradox announced that Lasombra and Toreador—two fan-favorite clans—would be accessible through the Shadows & Silk DLC, included only with the Premium Edition or sold separately at launch. Fans argued this sliced core content out of the base game, especially frustrating given that the original Bloodlines shipped with seven playable clans from the start. The reaction across Reddit and Discord was swift and unforgiving, with many players threatening to skip the game entirely.

Tensions escalated further when representatives referred to the move as a business decision during Gamescom 2025, which players felt dismissed their concerns. Shortly after, community manager DebbieElla told fans the team was listening and would make adjustments ahead of release.

Those adjustments now look significant. By restructuring the PlayStation offerings and refunding Premium Edition pre-orders, Paradox is effectively resetting the slate before launch. The studio plans to share a full update on September 17, and many fans expect that announcement to bring Lasombra and Toreador into the base game or otherwise remove the paywall controversy.

For now, the refund process applies to PlayStation Store purchases only. There’s growing speculation that similar changes could roll out on other platforms, but nothing official has been confirmed. Players who still want the game can re-purchase after the September 17 reveal, when the revised editions and content plans are clarified.

This dramatic pivot arrives just weeks after the long-delayed sequel locked in an October 21 release date. With trust on the line and launch fast approaching, Paradox’s next move will be crucial in rebuilding goodwill and delivering a day-one experience that respects the series’ legacy and the expectations of its devoted clan loyalists.
