Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is officially coming to an end, with Square Enix confirming that the free-to-play mobile and PC RPG will shut down on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT. Depending on region, the closure may take place on October 7, 2026.
The announcement marks the end of service for a game that launched worldwide in September 2023 on iOS and Android, before later arriving on PC through Steam in December 2023. Designed as a new way to experience the Final Fantasy VII universe, Ever Crisis offered a chapter-based retelling of key stories from the franchise, including events from the original Final Fantasy VII and related titles.
Square Enix stated that the decision was made after careful consideration, explaining that it would be difficult to continue providing the level of experience expected by players. The company apologized for the sudden announcement and thanked fans for supporting the game since launch.
According to the shutdown schedule, the end-of-service notice was issued on July 7, 2026, at 7:00 PM PDT. Sales of Red Crystals, the game’s paid in-game currency, also ended at the same time. Players who still have Red Crystals in their accounts will be able to use them until the game officially goes offline on October 6, 2026.
Square Enix also confirmed that in-game events will continue to be released and updated until the end of service. This means players will still have new content to experience during the game’s final months, even though the countdown to closure has already begun.
Once the shutdown process is complete, account information will be deleted as part of Square Enix’s personal information protection procedures. Players are advised to keep this in mind, especially if they need to access their account before service ends.
Refunds for unused paid Red Crystals will only be available to players residing in Taiwan. Details about the refund process will be shared later through in-game notices and the official website. Square Enix noted that account verification will be required for refund inquiries, so eligible users should not delete the app, change devices, or reinstall the game until the process is finished.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis was released as part of Square Enix’s ongoing expansion of the Final Fantasy VII series. With its mix of nostalgic storytelling, updated visuals, character collection, and live-service mechanics, the game attracted fans interested in revisiting Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Zack Fair, and other iconic characters in a new format.
However, like many live-service games, Ever Crisis depended on long-term updates, player engagement, and ongoing support. The shutdown shows the challenges of keeping free-to-play RPGs active over several years, even when they are connected to one of the most recognizable names in gaming.
