Fenix has introduced the BC28R, a new wireless bicycle light set built for riders who want powerful visibility, weather resistance, and convenient USB-C charging. Designed as a front-and-rear lighting system, the BC28R combines a high-output white headlight with a red rear safety light, making it suitable for commuting, night rides, road cycling, and low-light trail use.
The Fenix BC28R bike light set carries an IP66 rating, which means it is designed to handle heavy rain and challenging outdoor conditions. According to the company, the lights are also built to tolerate drops, giving cyclists added confidence when riding in rough weather or over uneven surfaces.
The front light is the main highlight of the set. It uses a replaceable 21700 battery, specifically the ARB-L21-5000, with an 18Wh capacity. This gives riders the flexibility to swap batteries when needed, which is especially useful for longer rides. The rear light, however, uses a built-in 400mAh battery and does not offer the same replaceable battery design.
Performance is where the front light stands out. Fenix rates the BC28R front lamp at up to 2,500 lumens, with a maximum beam distance of around 591 feet. That level of brightness is extremely powerful for a bicycle light, although it is better suited for off-road use or situations where maximum illumination is needed. At full power, the light can become quite warm, and runtime is limited to about 2 hours and 36 minutes even with output adjustment. Riders should also be careful when using the highest setting on public roads, as it may dazzle drivers, pedestrians, or other cyclists.
For everyday cycling, the lower and mid-level brightness modes are likely to be more practical. The front light offers modes ranging from 50 to 1,400 lumens, with runtimes extending from about 7 hours up to 52 hours depending on the selected setting. This makes it a versatile option for both short evening commutes and longer night rides.
The rear light focuses more on visibility than endurance. In steady mode, it runs for up to 6 hours. Cyclists who need longer battery life can use flashing mode, which extends the runtime to as much as 15 hours. While this is shorter than the front light’s longest runtime, it should still be enough for many daily rides and weekend outings.
One of the most convenient features of the Fenix BC28R set is wireless pairing between the front and rear lights. Once connected, both lights can be turned on at the same time, reducing the hassle of switching them on separately before every ride. The rear light can also be controlled through the front light, although the distance between the two must stay within about 5 feet. Fenix has not specified the exact wireless technology used for this connection.
Another useful feature is that both lights can be charged while in use. This could be helpful for cyclists who use an external power bank during long-distance rides. Charging is handled through USB-C, making the system easier to top up with modern chargers and cables.
The front light includes a battery level indicator, allowing riders to monitor remaining power more easily. However, this feature is not available on the rear light, so users may need to charge it regularly to avoid running out of power unexpectedly.
The BC28R front light is also compatible with Fenix’s optional ALD-10 Quick Release Bike Mount with GoPro Mount Adapter, giving riders more mounting flexibility depending on their setup.
The Fenix BC28R wireless bike light set is currently available in the United States at an introductory price of around $130. Its regular price is expected to rise to about $170 later. With its high-output front beam, replaceable battery design, USB-C charging, wireless light pairing, and rugged weather-resistant construction, the BC28R is aimed at cyclists looking for a premium lighting solution for safer riding in dark or unpredictable conditions.
