KTM Unveils Budget-Friendly Macina Joy Trekking E-Bike Powered by Bosch

KTM Macina Joy 2027: Affordable trekking e-bike arrives with Bosch rear hub motor

KTM is expanding its electric bike range with the Macina Joy 2027, a practical trekking e-bike designed for everyday riders who want a comfortable, well-equipped option for commuting, errands, and relaxed weekend rides. With a price of €2,299 in Germany, the new model sits in the more accessible segment of KTM’s e-bike lineup while still offering key features that urban cyclists expect.

The Macina Joy 2027 is aimed at riders who spend most of their time on paved roads, cycle paths, and smooth countryside or forest trails. It is not built as a rugged mountain bike, but rather as a dependable all-rounder for daily use. KTM will offer the bike in multiple frame designs, colors, and sizes, making it easier for different riders to find a version that suits their needs and riding style.

One of the most notable features is the new Bosch Hub Line motor. Unlike mid-drive systems often found on higher-priced electric bikes, this model uses a rear hub motor. It delivers 45 Nm of torque, which should be enough for city riding, gentle climbs, and everyday commuting. While it is not the most powerful e-bike motor available, it fits the Macina Joy’s purpose as a comfortable and affordable trekking bike.

The motor is paired with a removable 400 Wh battery. By current e-bike standards, this battery capacity is on the modest side, especially compared with long-range trekking models. However, for daily urban trips, short commutes, shopping runs, and leisure rides, it should be sufficient for many users. The removable design also makes charging more convenient, especially for riders who store their bike in a garage, bike room, or apartment building.

If the battery runs flat during a ride, the KTM Macina Joy can still be used like a conventional bicycle. A 9-speed Shimano Cues drivetrain provides a useful range of gears, helping riders continue without electric assistance. This is especially important on a practical commuter e-bike, where reliability and ease of use matter more than extreme performance.

Braking is handled by Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes with two-piston calipers at the front and rear. These brakes are a common choice on everyday e-bikes because they offer dependable stopping power in different weather conditions. For commuters who ride in traffic, in wet conditions, or with cargo, hydraulic disc brakes are a welcome feature.

The Macina Joy 2027 weighs around 23.6 kg, which is typical for a fully equipped trekking e-bike. Its maximum permitted system weight is 142 kg, including rider, bike, and luggage. For example, a rider weighing around 90 kg would still have room for a little over 28 kg of additional cargo. That makes the bike suitable for grocery trips, commuting gear, panniers, or light touring equipment.

KTM has also equipped the Macina Joy with the essentials needed for daily riding. It comes with front and rear fenders, integrated lighting, a rear luggage rack, and a kickstand. These details make a big difference for commuters, as buyers do not need to add basic accessories after purchase. The bike is ready for practical use straight from the shop.

Comfort is supported by a Suntour NX1 suspension fork offering 63 mm of travel. This should help smooth out rough pavement, cobblestones, uneven bike paths, and light gravel sections. While it is not intended for demanding off-road riding, the suspension adds comfort and control for the kind of mixed-surface riding many trekking e-bike owners encounter.

At €2,299, the KTM Macina Joy 2027 enters a competitive market filled with commuter and trekking e-bikes. Its main appeal is likely to be the combination of KTM branding, Bosch motor technology, Shimano components, commuter-ready equipment, and a relatively approachable price. Availability outside Germany may vary, but KTM e-bikes are also sold in other European markets, including the UK.

Whether the Macina Joy is worth waiting for will depend on rider priorities. Those looking for maximum battery capacity, high torque, or sportier performance may find stronger alternatives elsewhere. However, cyclists who want a straightforward, affordable, fully equipped electric trekking bike for everyday transport may find the KTM Macina Joy 2027 to be a practical and appealing choice.
