Early leaks hint Apple’s Pro Display XDR 2 is getting a Center Stage camera

Apple’s most powerful desktop monitor looks set for a long-awaited refresh. Code discovered in the latest macOS Tahoe 26 public beta points to a second-generation Pro Display XDR with a built-in camera and modern video features that the current model lacks.

Two new references appear in the beta: “Pro Display XDR Camera” and “Pro Display XDR Desk View Camera.” That wording strongly suggests Apple is preparing a next‑gen Pro Display XDR with an integrated ultra‑wide camera that supports Center Stage and Desk View. Center Stage automatically keeps you framed during video calls, while Desk View can show your face and a top‑down view of your workspace at the same time—ideal for live demos, sketching, unboxings, and instructional content.

Today, Apple’s external display lineup consists of the 27‑inch Studio Display and the 32‑inch Pro Display XDR. The Studio Display already includes a webcam, but the Pro Display XDR—launched back in 2019 and still priced from $4,999—does not. Adding a built‑in camera with Center Stage and Desk View would meaningfully distinguish the rumored Pro Display XDR 2 from its predecessor and better serve creatives, presenters, and remote workers who rely on high‑quality video.

There’s no confirmed release date or specs yet, and pricing remains unknown. However, multiple reports have indicated Apple is working on updates to both of its external monitors. If these beta references hold, the Pro Display XDR 2 could be a substantial upgrade for professionals who want Apple’s top-tier panel with modern conferencing and content‑creation features baked in.

Watch for further clues in upcoming macOS betas and keep an eye on Apple’s next round of hardware announcements, where an updated external display lineup would make a lot of sense.
