Citizen Terra Force AW1890-01A Eco-Drive Field Watch Arrives in the US With a Gray Dial and NATO Strap
Citizen has expanded its Terra Force field watch lineup in the United States with the new Citizen Terra Force AW1890-01A, a rugged and practical Eco-Drive watch aimed at buyers who want everyday durability, strong legibility, and a classic field-watch look. The new model is now available in the US with a retail price of $350.
The AW1890-01A stands out with a grid-textured gray dial, a silver-tone stainless steel case, and a matching gray nylon NATO-style strap. It keeps the same 41.2 mm case size and Eco-Drive movement used in the other Terra Force models, but its dial and strap combination gives it a more tactical, casual personality.
As expected from a field watch, readability is one of the main attractions. The dial uses large Arabic numerals around the outer section, making the time easy to read at a glance. Beneath those numerals is an inner 24-hour scale, useful for anyone who prefers military time or wants a more functional layout. A curved minute track surrounds the display and adds to the instrument-style design.
The hands are designed for visibility as well. The hour and minute hands are partially skeletonized and include luminous material for low-light reading. A blue seconds hand adds a subtle pop of color against the gray dial, while a date window sits neatly at the 6 o’clock position. Citizen has also fitted the watch with a deeply textured crown, which should make it easier to grip, especially in colder weather or when wearing gloves.
Powering the Citizen Terra Force AW1890-01A is the J810 Eco-Drive movement. This is Citizen’s three-hand movement with a date function, and it runs on light rather than requiring regular battery replacements. The watch can charge from natural or artificial light, making it a low-maintenance option for daily wear.
The AW1890-01A also comes with 100 meters of water resistance, which is suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and general outdoor use. While the crystal is mineral rather than sapphire, Citizen describes it as impact and shatter resistant, keeping the watch aligned with its practical field-watch purpose.
This new gray-dial version joins the existing Terra Force models introduced earlier in the year. Those include the AW1890-19B, which features a brown leather strap and a linen-textured white dial, and the AW1890-51X, which comes with a triple-link stainless steel bracelet and a green dial. All three models share the same $350 retail price, as well as the same case size, movement, and water resistance rating.
The main differences across the Terra Force lineup come down to style. The AW1890-01A offers the most casual and utility-focused appearance thanks to its nylon strap and gray dial. The leather version leans more vintage-inspired, while the steel bracelet model gives the watch a more traditional everyday look.
One point worth noting is that the nylon-strap version carries the same official price as the full steel-bracelet model. Some independent watch retailers are already offering the AW1890-01A below its official retail price, with discounts bringing it close to $90 less than the listed price in certain cases.
Citizen lists the new Terra Force AW1890-01A with both “New” and “Exclusive” labels on its product page. US deliveries are expected to begin as early as September 8. The watch is covered by a five-year movement warranty, which can be extended to six years with registration.
For buyers looking for a reliable solar-powered field watch, the Citizen Terra Force AW1890-01A offers a strong mix of durability, easy readability, 100 m water resistance, and Eco-Drive convenience. Its gray dial and NATO strap give it a clean outdoor-ready look, making it a solid option for anyone who wants a practical everyday watch without the hassle of battery changes.
