Citizen Unveils Ultra-Thin Eco-Drive One With Forest Green Mother-of-Pearl Dial
Citizen has introduced a new limited-edition Eco-Drive One watch that blends minimalist dress-watch styling with one of the brand’s most impressive technical achievements: an exceptionally slim solar-powered movement. The new Citizen Eco-Drive One AQ5025-04N stands out with a dramatic forest green mother-of-pearl dial, a black DLC-coated stainless steel case, and a refined crocodile leather strap.
Limited to just 250 pieces worldwide, this elegant release is aimed at collectors and watch enthusiasts who appreciate ultra-thin watchmaking, understated luxury, and the convenience of light-powered technology.
The Citizen Eco-Drive One collection is known for pushing the limits of slim solar watch design, and the AQ5025-04N continues that tradition. Its case measures only 4.5mm thick, giving it a sleek, almost weightless presence on the wrist. Inside is Citizen’s Caliber 8845 Eco-Drive movement, which is just 1mm thick.
While it is not the thinnest Eco-Drive One model Citizen has ever produced, this version leans more heavily into classic dress-watch appeal. With its compact 36.6mm case, slim profile, and leather strap, it is designed to slip easily under a shirt cuff and complement formal or smart-casual attire.
The highlight of the watch is its forest green mother-of-pearl dial. Because mother-of-pearl has a natural, iridescent character, each dial offers subtle variations in texture and tone. Depending on the lighting, the green surface can shift in appearance, giving the watch a more dynamic and organic look than a standard painted dial.
Citizen pairs the shimmering green center with a darker green outer track, creating depth while keeping the overall design balanced. Silver-tone applied hour markers add a polished contrast, while the small-seconds subdial at 6 o’clock reinforces the watch’s traditional dress-watch personality.
The stainless steel case features a black finish created with Citizen’s Duratect DLC surface-hardening treatment. This coating not only gives the watch a sharp, modern appearance but also helps improve resistance to everyday wear. The black case works particularly well with the deep green dial, creating a sophisticated color combination that feels both contemporary and timeless.
A black crocodile leather strap completes the design. It measures 19mm wide and is fitted with a tri-fold push-button clasp for added security and convenience. Despite its refined construction, the watch remains very light, weighing just 42g.
As expected from Citizen, the AQ5025-04N is powered by Eco-Drive technology. This means the watch runs on light and does not require routine battery changes. When fully charged, it can operate for approximately seven months without additional exposure to light.
The Caliber 8845 offers accuracy rated at ±15 seconds per month, which is solid for a slim quartz-powered dress watch. Its solar-powered design adds practicality to what is otherwise a highly elegant and collectible timepiece.
Due to its ultra-thin construction, the Citizen Eco-Drive One AQ5025-04N is not designed as a sports watch. Citizen rates it for daily-use water resistance, meaning it can handle minor exposure from everyday situations, but it should not be worn while swimming or diving.
The Citizen Eco-Drive One AQ5025-04N will be released in Japan on October 15 with a price of ¥363,000, which is approximately $2,307. Only 250 individually numbered pieces will be produced worldwide, making it a highly limited model within the Eco-Drive One lineup.
