Seiko has introduced a striking new limited-edition timepiece that blends Japanese watchmaking with the quiet elegance of bonsai art. The Seiko Presage Classic x Tradman’s Bonsai HCC009J takes inspiration from a Japanese black pine bonsai seen under moonlight, creating a refined dress watch with deep cultural details and premium mechanical performance.
This release joins Seiko’s growing lineup of special-edition watches, but it stands out for its poetic design approach. Created in collaboration with Tradman’s Bonsai, a Japanese creative collective dedicated to bringing bonsai culture to a wider audience, the watch captures the texture, color, and symbolism of an aged pine tree in a beautifully wearable form.
The centerpiece of the watch is its textured green dial, finished in matsuba-iro, a traditional Japanese pine-needle green associated with good fortune. The surface is designed to evoke the bark and character of a mature Japanese black pine, giving the dial depth and an organic feel. Paired with a gold-tone stainless steel case, matching bracelet, and gold accents on the hands and hour markers, the watch has a warm, elegant presence that feels both classic and distinctive.
Seiko includes a five-link gold-plated stainless steel bracelet, but the limited edition also comes with an additional black calfskin leather strap. The underside of the leather strap features an embossed sanko-matsu pine needle motif, adding another subtle nod to the bonsai theme. This makes the watch easy to dress up or down while preserving its traditional Japanese inspiration.
Inside the Seiko Presage Classic x Tradman’s Bonsai is the Seiko Caliber 6R51 automatic movement. It supports manual winding and includes a stop-seconds function for more precise time setting. The movement offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 72 hours, making it practical for everyday wear or occasional rotation in a collection. Accuracy is rated at +25 to -15 seconds per day.
The watch measures 38mm in diameter, with a thickness of 12.9mm and a lug-to-lug length of 43.8mm. These dimensions give it a balanced size that should appeal to fans of traditional dress watches as well as collectors looking for a refined modern automatic. A dual-curved sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while 10-bar water resistance adds everyday durability.
The see-through screw-down case back features sapphire crystal and is engraved with “LIMITED EDITION” along with an individual serial number. Only 2,000 pieces will be produced worldwide, with 600 allocated for Japan. Each watch will be delivered in a special presentation box with the additional leather strap and a watch cloth.
The Seiko Presage Classic x Tradman’s Bonsai is scheduled for a global launch in September. Pricing places it firmly in the premium range of the Presage collection. It will retail for £1,250 in the UK, ¥176,000 in Japan, AUD $2,100 in Australia, and €1,400 in Europe. US pricing has not yet been confirmed.
