Retrofit Breakthrough Brings Up to 90 kWh of Battery Storage to Existing Solar Systems

SunEnergyXT 500 PRO AC Core brings up to 90 kWh of retrofit solar battery storage

SunEnergyXT has started sales of its new SunEnergyXT 500 PRO AC Core, a retrofit battery storage system designed for homeowners and businesses that already have a solar installation and want to store more of their own energy. The system was recently presented in Munich and is now available through specialist retailers, with pricing starting at €1,599 and introductory offers available at launch.

The SunEnergyXT 500 PRO AC Core is built as an AC-coupled solar battery solution, meaning it can be added to many existing photovoltaic systems without requiring major changes to the current setup. For solar owners facing lower feed-in tariffs, this type of storage can make a noticeable difference by allowing more solar power to be used directly instead of being sent back to the grid.

At its core, the system offers 5 kWh of battery capacity. It can be expanded up to 30 kWh per unit, and up to three systems can be combined, bringing the total possible storage capacity to 90 kWh. That makes it suitable not only for smaller residential solar arrays but also for larger installations with higher energy demands.

The main storage unit includes a bidirectional inverter with 2,400 W of output and AC charging power. Charging and power distribution are managed through a compatible smart meter, allowing the battery to respond intelligently to household consumption and solar production. Supported meters include Shelly Pro 3EM, Shelly EM-50, Eco-Tracker IR, Eco-Tracker P1, and bitShake.

Smart home users may also find the system appealing. The SunEnergyXT 500 PRO AC Core can be integrated with platforms such as Home Assistant, and it supports local control without depending on cloud services. This gives users more privacy, more reliability, and greater flexibility when building an energy management setup at home.

One of the most interesting features of the SunEnergyXT 500 PRO AC Core is its built-in support for direct solar panel connection. Unlike many retrofit battery systems, the necessary hardware for PV input is already included. The system offers MPPT input options of four times 625 W or three times 800 W, although these solar inputs are disabled by default and can be activated later for an additional fee.

This design gives owners more freedom to expand in the future. For example, someone could first install the system purely as a battery upgrade for an existing solar array, then later activate the PV inputs and connect additional solar panels without replacing the main unit or adding extra hardware.

With expandable capacity, AC-coupled installation, smart meter compatibility, local smart home integration, and optional solar input activation, the SunEnergyXT 500 PRO AC Core is positioned as a flexible retrofit solar storage solution for users who want to increase energy independence and make better use of their photovoltaic system.
