Citizen’s Limited-Edition Promaster Dive With a Color-Shifting Dial Makes Its US Debut

Citizen’s EO2023-00W Promaster Dive is finally arriving in the US, bringing a fresh twist to one of the brand’s best-known dive watch lines: a striking color-shifting dial that changes character as the light hits it. Known for delivering strong value in the dive watch world, the Promaster series sticks to its proven formula here—durable build, practical timing bezel, and solar-powered convenience—while adding a dial that’s designed to steal the spotlight.

Previously released in China and then rolling out in Canada, the Citizen Promaster Dive EO2023-00W is now available in the US with a retail price of $495. It’s a limited-edition release capped at 3,400 unnumbered units worldwide, which gives collectors and everyday wearers a bit of urgency if they want one before it disappears.

The big talking point is the dial. Citizen describes it as inspired by the ever-changing sea, and the effect is easy to understand: the surface shifts between deep blue and teal, with flashes of violet appearing at certain angles. It’s a dynamic look that feels different from the usual flat blues and blacks common in dive watches, making it just as appealing for daily wear as it is for weekend adventures.

The rest of the design supports that aquatic theme while keeping things functional. The unidirectional rotating bezel is made for tracking elapsed time—an essential dive-watch feature—and it includes clear minute markings and a luminous pip at 12 o’clock for quick visibility. A silver-colored chapter ring frames the dial, while applied hour markers and broad hands come finished in a warm rose-gold tone with generous lume for legibility in low light.

One of the most wearable details is the case size. At 36.5mm, the EO2023-00W delivers a more compact option compared to many modern dive watches, which often run larger on the wrist. The rose gold-tone stainless steel case should be especially appealing to anyone with smaller wrists—or to anyone who simply prefers a sleeker, less bulky dive watch that still looks capable.

Powering the watch is Citizen’s in-house Eco-Drive E168 movement. Instead of relying on routine battery changes, it stays charged from light, reinforcing the Promaster reputation for low-maintenance reliability. Citizen also fits the watch with a PU strap made from plant-based material, adding a more modern, eco-conscious touch to the overall package.

With its limited-release status, solar-powered Eco-Drive movement, compact 36.5mm case, and a dial that shifts through ocean-like blues, teals, and violet tones, the Citizen Promaster Dive EO2023-00W stands out as a uniquely styled dive watch that still checks the boxes enthusiasts expect.
