Citizen Japan is kicking off 2026 with a striking new pair of limited-edition Attesa watches built around one dramatic celestial moment: a total lunar eclipse. Arriving as part of the Attesa ACT Line “Shades of Red” collection, the two new references—Attesa BY1005-73Z and Attesa CC4077-71Z—are scheduled to launch on February 26, 2026. The theme is timely, too, as the watches are meant to commemorate the total lunar eclipse visible across Japan at 8:04 PM on March 3.
Both models lean into a “blood moon” aesthetic, pairing eclipse-inspired dials with lightweight, high-durability construction. Citizen uses Super Titanium for the cases and bracelets, finished with a Duratect DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) surface treatment designed to enhance scratch resistance while maintaining a sleek, dark, modern look. Functionally, they’re built for precision timekeeping as well: these limited editions are radio-controlled, and they also feature GPS-synced Eco-Drive movements—appealing to buyers who want a watch that stays accurate with minimal input.
The Citizen Attesa BY1005-73Z is the more compact of the two, with a case thickness of 10.8 mm. It runs on Citizen’s H874 caliber, a radio-synced Eco-Drive movement rated at ±15 seconds per month when it isn’t receiving a signal. The standout feature here is the Luna Program, which automatically calculates and displays moon phase information based on received radio signals—an especially fitting complication for a watch centered on an eclipse event.
Citizen also puts serious effort into the BY1005-73Z dial design. It uses a layered construction meant to evoke the night sky and the surface of the moon: a pearlescent-printed base is paired with a 3D inkjet-printed layer that adds depth and texture. Practical specs remain strong for everyday use, including 10-bar water resistance and a “Metal Allergy Resistant” rating.
For those who want the most feature-packed option, the Citizen Attesa CC4077-71Z is positioned as the flagship in the pair. It uses the F950 GPS-sync Eco-Drive caliber, adding a 1/20-second chronograph along with faster satellite signal acquisition. The tradeoff is a thicker case at 15.4 mm, but it’s aimed at buyers who prioritize advanced timing and global synchronization.
The CC4077-71Z dial takes the lunar theme even further. Citizen combines a wine-red moon motif layered over a white mother-of-pearl base, creating a more dramatic “eclipse glow” effect. One of the most distinctive design touches is the sapphire bezel ring, finished with dual-layer vapor deposition to achieve dark red tones and silver city names. Despite the large 44.6 mm case diameter, the use of Super Titanium helps keep the weight down to 111 g, making it more wearable than you might expect from its size.
Pricing reflects the difference in complexity and positioning. The Citizen Attesa BY1005-73Z is set at ¥198,000 (around $1,266), while the higher-end Citizen Attesa CC4077-71Z comes in at ¥385,000 (around $2,461). Both are limited-run releases aimed at collectors and enthusiasts who want a distinctive Japanese titanium watch with eclipse-inspired design, Eco-Drive convenience, and highly accurate time synchronization.
