Citizen Spain is expanding its Marine 188 lineup with two fresh stainless steel models that lean into a sporty, diver-inspired look while keeping things practical and affordable. The new references are the Citizen AW1887-56L and AW1888-53E, both built around the brand’s light-powered Eco-Drive technology and sized for strong wrist presence.
At first glance, these watches clearly borrow from classic dive-watch styling. You get bold, easy-to-read hour markers, luminous accents for visibility, and a sturdy, tool-watch vibe. However, they’re more “dive-inspired” than true dive watches in the strict sense, since the bezel is fixed rather than rotating.
Both the AW1887-56L and AW1888-53E come in 43 mm stainless steel cases with a 12.4 mm thickness. They’re paired with stainless steel bracelets and a double-pusher folding clasp, aiming for a secure, everyday-wear fit that matches the rugged design. Up top, Citizen uses mineral glass, which tends to handle knocks well but won’t offer the same scratch resistance you’d get from sapphire crystal.
Where the two models really separate themselves is in the dial-and-color approach.
The Citizen AW1887-56L goes for a more fashion-forward contrast. It features an ice-blue dial with a vertical textured pattern, matched with a black PVD-coated case and bracelet. Copper-toned hands add warmth, while black indices sharpen the contrast against the pale dial, giving it a distinctive, modern look that stands out in the Marine 188 range.
The Citizen AW1888-53E takes the more classic route. It pairs a black dial and black bezel with gold-toned markers, then adds a pop of color through a red seconds hand. The result is a familiar sporty style with just enough detail to keep the design from feeling too plain.
Inside both watches is Citizen’s Caliber J810 Eco-Drive movement, a solar-quartz system designed for low maintenance and reliable daily performance. Once fully charged, it offers up to an 8-month power reserve, so it can keep running even if it’s not exposed to light for a while. You also get a straightforward date window positioned at 3 o’clock for everyday convenience.
As for pricing, these new Marine 188 additions are positioned as accessible options for buyers who want the look of a diver-style watch with the ease of Eco-Drive. Listings show the AW1887-56L priced at €215.10 (around $255 USD) under a promotional rate, while the AW1888-53E starts at €179.10 (around $212 USD), depending on the retailer.
With their bold sizing, stainless steel build, and Eco-Drive convenience, the AW1887-56L and AW1888-53E look set to appeal to anyone shopping for an affordable, sporty Citizen watch—especially those who want a modern colorway or a classic black-and-gold combination without stepping into higher price brackets.
