China’s Smartphone Market Overview: Third Quarter 2024

The Chinese smartphone market experienced a significant shift in the third quarter of 2024, with shipments dropping to under 70 million units. Despite this dip, forecasts suggest a promising comeback with over a 10% increase in the final quarter of the year.

This analysis, drawn from DIGITIMES research, unveils a detailed look at the market movements. In these recent months, China saw 69.81 million smartphones shipped, reflecting a 2.8% decline compared to the second quarter. However, this number still represents a noteworthy 10.3% increase when juxtaposed with the same quarter from the previous year, 2023.

Looking forward to the fourth quarter, industry experts predict a robust recovery, expecting shipment volumes to witness a substantial double-digit growth.

The competitive battleground of brands in the Chinese smartphone scene saw Vivo and Oppo steadfast in their leading positions. Xiaomi and Huawei made impressive strides up the rankings, each climbing a spot, while Honor experienced a slight decline, dropping two positions. This dynamic reshuffle indicates shifting consumer preferences and strategies paying off for some brands while challenging others.

With a rich competitive landscape, the Chinese smartphone market remains one to watch, as it continues to evolve and adapt to changing consumer demands and technological advancements.
