Google has just unveiled an exciting new feature for its Gemini AI chatbot that music lovers will find particularly appealing. The chatbot is now equipped to search for and play music directly from Spotify. However, to access this feature, users will need to link their Spotify accounts with Gemini, and it’s designed specifically for English speakers on Android devices with a Spotify Premium subscription.
Before diving into music exploration, users should note some specific requirements and limitations. Users must first enable the Gemini Apps Activity feature in their settings. Unfortunately, this new capability isn’t available on Google Messages or the Gemini app for Apple’s iOS or the web version, limiting its reach for now.
Once set up, Gemini makes it easy to dive into your Spotify library—just request a specific album, song, or playlist. You can also discover new tracks by asking about similar artists, specific lyrics, genres, or vibes. While this functionality opens exciting possibilities, it does come with a few restrictions. For instance, Gemini is not yet able to create new playlists or search for radio channels.
In the settings of the Gemini extension, users have the flexibility to manage their Spotify integration. This includes toggling the Spotify control on or off and unlinking their account if they choose. Additionally, if you’ve connected other music streaming services like YouTube Music to Gemini, you can specify which one you would like to use at any given time.
Whether you’re out to rediscover old favorites or explore new sounds, Gemini’s new Spotify integration takes your music journey to the next level, offering a seamless blend of AI and entertainment. So, sync up your accounts, and let the tunes begin!
