China’s Smartphone Market in the Fourth Quarter of 2024

Smartphone shipments in China have seen significant movement, reaching an impressive 78.6 million units in the closing months of 2024. While this marks a healthy quarter-on-quarter increase of 14.9%, the year-on-year growth is a more modest 0.6%. However, expectations for the first quarter of 2025 suggest a challenge ahead, with a predicted dip in shipment volumes by single digits.

Intriguingly, the lineup of leading brands is undergoing its own shifts. Apple has surged forward to claim the top spot among the top five smartphone brands in China for the specified period. Huawei also made strides, climbing two positions to secure a significant lead. Meanwhile, once dominant players like Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo experienced some shifts in position, descending slightly by one, two, and three spots, respectively.

These movements reflect the dynamic and highly competitive nature of the Chinese smartphone market, where innovation and brand loyalty are constantly evolving. As these trends unfold, it will be interesting to watch which brands manage to capture the imagination and wallets of consumers in 2025 and beyond, given the projected market fluctuations.
