China is stepping up regulations on the transport of power banks on its domestic flights. In light of recent recalls, such as those by Anker involving over a million units, the government aims to prevent defective power banks from making their way onto planes. As of June 28, 2025, power banks without the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) logo are banned on these flights. This move primarily affects domestic travelers in China, as the CCC certification was only introduced in August 2023, meaning most earlier power banks lack this mark.
For international travelers, the impact is minimal unless planning a trip to China. However, it’s possible that Chinese airlines might extend restrictions to international routes, prompting a global tightening of regulations. Currently, power banks up to 100 Wh are allowed on most international airlines but must be carried in hand luggage.
This regulatory shift highlights an increasing focus on safety in both the tech and travel industries. As power banks grow in popularity, ensuring their safety standards is becoming more crucial for airlines worldwide.
