A recent leak from a retailer has unveiled more details about the upcoming Garmin Fenix 8 series smartwatches. This leak has validated many earlier speculations and introduced some fresh insights into the wearable’s features.
The information confirms that the Fenix 8 series will be available with both AMOLED and memory-in-pixel (MIP) displays. The standard models will come in 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm sizes with AMOLED displays, while the solar variants will be available in 47mm and 51mm sizes featuring MIP displays. The MIP screens are designed to consume less power, and their battery life is boosted by advanced solar charging technology, delivering 50% more energy compared to previous Fenix solar models.
Regarding battery life, the leak suggests that the AMOLED versions will offer up to 29 days in smartwatch mode. In contrast, the solar models, when utilizing the always-on display mode, can achieve up to 48 days of battery life. The display sizes also see an upgrade: the 43mm model now has a 1.3-inch display, up from the 1.2-inch display in the 42mm Fenix 7, while the 47mm version will feature a 1.4-inch display, larger than its predecessor. The 51mm model retains the same 1.4-inch display.
Additionally, users will have options for different materials, including titanium or stainless steel bezels and sapphire or gorilla glass lenses. A notable new feature is a side-mounted sensor protector, a first for the brand.
Other features that have been confirmed include a built-in speaker and microphone for calls and voice commands, as well as Garmin Share. The smartwatch will retain tools like premium maps, an LED flashlight, and the Garmin Messenger app, similar to the Fenix 7. Another new capability is recording dives up to 40 meters (approximately 131 feet), which supports various diving profiles such as recreational and freediving.
The Garmin Fenix 8 series is anticipated to be officially launched on August 27th, with starting prices around $1,100/€999.
