Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Delayed to 2027, Bringing a Larger Gothic Adventure to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S
505 Games and ArtPlay have confirmed that Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, the highly anticipated follow-up to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, will no longer launch in 2026. The gothic action RPG sequel is now planned for release sometime in 2027.
When it arrives, Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement will be available on Windows PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The new entry promises to expand the Bloodstained universe with a darker, more ambitious adventure set in 16th-century England. Players will explore a cursed land wrapped in a rich 2.5D gothic atmosphere, combining side-scrolling action, strategic combat, crafting, cooking, exploration, and character customization.
The story centers on a mysterious ethereal castle ruled by Demon Lord Elias, whose demonic forces have plunged the kingdom into fear. Both the Kingdom and the Church have repeatedly sent strike teams to stop the threat, but every attempt has ended in disaster.
As the land faces another chance to fight back, two heroes are brought together by fate. Leonard Brandon, a young warrior from the Church’s Black Wolves clan, joins forces with Alexander Kyteler, a knight of the Kingdom’s White Stags and the only survivor of a failed expedition. Together, Leo and Alex must confront Demon Lord Elias, uncover the secrets behind the castle, and break the grip of evil over the kingdom.
One of the biggest additions in Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is its new buddy system. Instead of controlling a single protagonist, players will command both Leo and Alex during the journey. This dual-character approach is designed to add more depth to combat, puzzle-solving, trap navigation, and exploration, giving players new ways to approach dangerous encounters.
ArtPlay is also building what it describes as the largest map in the Bloodstained series so far. The world will feature a changing time-of-day system, with dawn, day, dusk, and night altering the atmosphere and potentially affecting how players interact with the environment. Shifting light and darkness are expected to play a bigger role in both exploration and gameplay, making the cursed land feel more alive and unpredictable.
Combat is being expanded through the Epiphany system, which allows players to discover new moves while fighting. As Leo and Alex face stronger enemies and bosses, they will unlock unique attacks and powerful abilities that encourage experimentation and mastery. This system aims to make battles feel more dynamic while rewarding players who engage deeply with the mechanics.
Customization is also getting more attention in this sequel. Players can expect a wider range of armor changes that visibly alter character appearances, along with expanded options for crafting and cooking. Side quests tied to these systems will help strengthen the characters and give players more reasons to explore every corner of the world.
Although the delay pushes Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement into 2027, the extra development time may help ArtPlay deliver a more polished and expansive sequel. With its dual-hero gameplay, massive gothic map, deeper combat systems, and strong connection to the larger Bloodstained universe, the game is shaping up to be a major release for fans of dark fantasy action RPGs and 2.5D exploration-driven adventures.
