GTA 6 Pre-Orders Surge 436% After Netflix Trailer as PS5 Demand Crushes Xbox

GTA 6 Pre-Orders Surge After Netflix Extended Look, With PS5 Players Leading the Rush

Grand Theft Auto 6 was already shaping up to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in years, but its latest promotional push appears to have sent demand even higher. After Rockstar Games debuted a 26-minute Netflix Extended Look for GTA 6, pre-order activity reportedly climbed sharply, giving the highly anticipated open-world title another major boost ahead of its November release.

According to market intelligence estimates from Sensor Tower, GTA 6 pre-orders jumped 436% on August 27 compared with the previous day. The surge did not stop there. By August 28, pre-orders were estimated to be up 572% compared with the average recorded over the prior 30 days.

That kind of movement is notable for a game that was already seeing massive demand. Sensor Tower estimates that GTA 6 had reached around 4.55 million pre-orders before the Extended Look aired, despite Rockstar having shown limited gameplay since the second trailer released in May 2025.

PS5 pre-orders show a much stronger reaction than Xbox

One of the biggest takeaways from the new data is the continued dominance of PlayStation 5 pre-orders. Since tracking began on June 24, PS5 reservations have reportedly stayed ahead of Xbox, and the gap widened again following the Netflix presentation.

On August 27, PlayStation sales were estimated to have jumped 606%, while Xbox pre-orders rose by 127%. The difference suggests that the new footage, which was captured on Sony’s base PS5 console, may have been especially effective in convincing PlayStation owners to secure their copy early.

Even with ongoing discussion around visual performance and the possibility that GTA 6 may target 30 frames per second, the new showcase appears to have reassured many players. The extended footage gave fans a closer look at the game’s world, tone, presentation, and scale, helping turn curiosity into pre-orders.

Netflix also benefits from the GTA 6 spotlight

The collaboration between Rockstar Games and Netflix appears to have helped more than just GTA 6 sales. After the Extended Look premiered, Netflix saw a noticeable rise in app interest. Its app reportedly climbed to 35th place on Apple’s App Store rankings, moving up 61 positions in just 24 hours.

That is a major improvement compared with its average ranking of 76th over the previous 30 days. The GTA 6 special also reached the number one position on Netflix’s top 10 movies list, showing how much attention the game can generate outside traditional gaming platforms.

Rockstar’s decision to make the video exclusive to Netflix for six hours drew some criticism from fans who expected immediate access across major video platforms. However, the strategy may have worked exactly as intended. By partnering with a mainstream streaming service, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive were able to reach not only dedicated gamers but also casual viewers who may not follow every gaming announcement.

GTA 6 continues to dominate gaming conversations

The scale of interest surrounding GTA 6 remains extraordinary. Even before the Extended Look, pre-orders were already described as “exceptional” by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. While Take-Two has not released official pre-order figures, third-party estimates suggest the game is tracking at a level few releases can match.

Sensor Tower Senior Insights Analyst Abe Yousef provided the updated projections, with the company using its own panel data and data science models to estimate pre-order trends.

With each new trailer, showcase, or marketing event, GTA 6 seems to strengthen its position as one of the most anticipated video games ever made. The Netflix Extended Look not only reignited fan excitement but also delivered a measurable boost in pre-orders, particularly among PS5 players.

If this momentum continues, Rockstar Games could be on course for one of the biggest launch periods in gaming history when GTA 6 finally arrives in November.
