Asus quietly reveals a fast 13-inch color e-paper display at Computex 2026
Asus had more than just high-profile laptops and AI PCs on display at Computex 2026. Tucked away from the biggest announcements was one of the company’s more unusual and potentially useful new devices: a 13.3-inch color e-paper touchscreen display called the MP13UC.
This portable Asus e-paper display stands out because it combines the low-power advantages of e-ink-style technology with a refresh rate that is much faster than many traditional e-paper screens. With a 35 Hz refresh rate, the MP13UC is not designed to compete with OLED or LCD monitors for gaming or high-speed visuals, but it is fast enough to show moving content more smoothly than typical e-paper panels. Asus even demonstrated video playback on the screen, showing that it can handle basic video viewing, including online video content.
The display features a sharp 3,200 x 2,400 resolution and a pixel density of 300 ppi, making text and images look crisp on the 13.3-inch panel. It can reproduce 4,096 colors, which gives it more versatility than a monochrome e-paper screen. However, the colors are noticeably softer and less vibrant than what you would see on an OLED display. That trade-off is expected, since the main appeal of color e-paper is not rich contrast or deep saturation, but comfort, efficiency, and readability.
One of the biggest advantages of the Asus MP13UC is its eye-friendly design. The screen is flicker-free and emits no blue light, making it a compelling option for long reading sessions, writing, coding, document review, digital signage, or productivity tasks where eye strain is a concern. Asus also says the display is designed to reduce ghosting, a common issue with e-paper panels where remnants of previous images can remain visible.
Power efficiency is another major selling point. Like other e-paper displays, the MP13UC uses very little energy and can continue showing a static image even without a constant power source. That makes it useful not only as a portable monitor but also as a digital picture frame, desk dashboard, calendar display, information board, or compact 13-inch digital sign.
Asus also paired the display with a clever accessory called the ATS01D stand. This mini stand is foldable, flexible, and designed for portability. It supports height adjustment, rotation, and tilt, allowing users to position the e-paper monitor in a way that suits their workspace. When folded, it becomes compact enough to carry easily, which matches the lightweight and thin nature of the display itself.
The port selection is located along the bottom edge of the MP13UC. Asus included HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, and USB-C, giving users several ways to connect the display to laptops, desktops, mini PCs, or other compatible devices. A power button is also placed on the bottom.
Full specifications have not yet been released, and Asus has not confirmed final pricing or worldwide availability. However, the MP13UC is expected to arrive in Europe, likely alongside the ATS01D stand.
The Asus MP13UC could appeal to users looking for a low-power portable monitor, an eye-friendly secondary screen, or a color e-paper display for productivity and static content. It will not replace a traditional monitor for media editing, gaming, or entertainment, but for reading, writing, dashboards, presentations, and always-on information displays, it could become one of the more interesting e-paper devices of 2026.
